Old World North Woods Rambler

Using reclaimed wood for the siding and trim work juxtaposed to the stucco wall treatment and steep roofs, we created an old world looking rambler. The roofs hang low to help anchor the house into the land. The interior has comfortable north woods vibes with a show stopping wine cellar. Ming Dynasty Suite

Richly appointed, our client’s condo on Nicollet Island presented the opportunity to create an atmosphere, spaces to display their art collection and a highly detailed primary suite.  JMAD JMAD JMAD JMAD Architect James McNeal started with the stair railing that connects the upper floor to the suite. The suite was tight on space, so we wanted to use details that would open up the space without eliminating any. Since the tub takes up so much space, we decided to make the tub an art and water feature - with a hand-carved dragon serving at the helm. All the detailing was custom designed by us, with granite and a pebbled tile flooring underneath the tub. We hired local artists to bring our designs to life. JMA... More

Houses in forest

Houses in the forest - a duo of single family houses, designed in the thick of the forest near Vilnius. While creating volume plastic, we sought the harmony of natural and human origin. The expressive natural environment influenced the free arrangement of building volumes in space. The two buildings designed at the same time on adjacent plots are different, but create a general impression of complexity, and have a similar style of architectural expression. The main architectural concept is the contrast between the closed exterior of the buildings and the resolution of cozy inner yards. Detail: Rammed Earth Walls of Casa Ballena, Los Cabos

Mexican architecture firm RIMA Design Group has completed a design-build project for an arts center consisting of several connected structures made from rammed earth. The earthen walls step in relation to the site’s sloping topography, and were made using soil extracted from the ground on which they stand. There are few materials as contextual as rammed earth. The use of local soils can yield structures that carry the colors and textures of a place and appear as natural extensions of their sites. Yet, as raw as constructing with earth may seem, it is a technically complex and labor-intensive process, often restricted to certain climates, soil conditions, and buildings of limited heights and uses. The desert-like southern Baja Peni... More

Villa Las Chapas

In this house a large patio was arranged as access to the house, which defines the relationship between the main house and the guest house. This means that the house is gradually revealed and becomes more mysterious as you enter. Access is through a sea of small stones that are flooded by a stream of water that reminds us of Japanese architecture. The same feeling is experienced in the access to the rooms with the pink wall and the steps. With its simple white walls, the architecture frames and limits the landscape. Somehow the existing pines are highlighted to enhance their beauty and strength ... Each room has a direct relationship with its own outdoor space, its own private terrace from which to enjoy the views. The double height li... More
