The site features a gentle southern slope and a pine grove that must be preserved. Consequently, the house is positioned along the northern boundary to maximize southern exposure. However, since the quality of a house increases with its spatial richness, simply facing south is insufficient. The site is exceptional, offering magnificent views over the Lozoya valley and the Guadarrama peaks. However, it presents a significant challenge: a change in elevation of more than twenty meters between its highest and lowest points, alongside a rugged topography characterized by massive granite boulders. The program is straightforward, designed as a residence for a musician without a family, requiring only two bedrooms. Conversely, the owner needs a dedicated music studio and a spacious living area. SFJ6 is a project of 102 dwellings designed to adapt to the complexity of the city, solving several urban problems and generating quality public spaces in its surroundings. The building is integrated into the city as a folded volume that embraces the disparate existing buildings, taking special care of the contact areas and adapting its ground floor to the complex topography of the site in order to generate the greatest points of contact with the city and revitalise the public space. On Madrid’s northern periphery lies this work, the result of a project undertaken for a property owner featuring limited resources, but who trusted the studio, granting it enough freedom to effectively approach the project.
