Can concrete appear as thin as paper and defy gravity?A cantilevered, ultra-thin concrete roof challenges gravity—not as an artificially generated image that ignores physical laws, but as a real built structure in an ordinary garden. With this 53-square-meter garden pavilion, FACE and DUCON bring ultra-high-performance concrete from the lab into practice, allowing it to float delicately. An 11 by 5 meter, just 90 millimeter thick roof slab hovers over a long table with an integrated fire pit. Set on a compact footprint, this house is designed around simple materials and thoughtful planning. A clay-red exterior wraps around the home, echoing the colour of the African tulip tree that dominates the front of the site. The tree was embraced—its form guiding the shape of the building. The architecture steps in and out around the tree’s canopy, with bold projections and soft recesses that reflect its presence. This thoughtful shaping also anticipates future buildings on either side, ensuring the house remains private on the outside and expansive on the inside. Selçuk Haus, completed in 2024 by Dolmus, is a residential project located in the town of Selçuk on Turkey’s Aegean coast. Comprising two identical buildings separated by a shared garden, the project is set on a hillside in a residential neighborhood, offering views of Selçuk, Ayasuluk Castle, and the surrounding nature. The two volumes are positioned to balance intimacy and views, creating a thoughtful balance between private and shared spaces. We designed a residence that doubles as a workspace in a 50-year-old apartment building on a high ground in the heart of the city. The building stands on a hillside in the shape of a mortar facing a nearby river. An irregular terrain at the end of a closed street, merging in some portion, to the semicircle of the roundabout that completes the residential area where TOMM House stars with its powerful personality of right angles.
