Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Instituttet

The expansion of the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) connects with the existing architecture, buildings, and outdoor areas, accommodating the growth of the research and education environment while enhancing its connection to the Faculty of Engineering. Bygningsstyrelsen - The Danish Building and Property Agency The new building also establishes a visual connection and strengthens the coherence between the three existing buildingsections of the Faculty of Engineering, each with its distinct architectural expression, by allowing the new building to evolve the original campus architecture. The main architectural concept is rooted in the comprehensive plan for the SDU Campus Odens... More

Set Houses

Designing row houses involves concepts such as modulation, repetition and standardization. This model, very present in the urban landscape of Curitiba, is usually represented by two-story houses with roofs, arranged side by side, which do not formally communicate with each other. When we received the demand from the client and builder, we faced the challenge of materializing a formal unity by combining seven distinct residences without losing the identity and individuality of each house. Eduardo Macarios Eduardo Macarios Since the rectangular plot has the shortest front facing the street, the layout was arranged in two perpendicular lines to the longer side of the lot, with three units facing the street and four facing the backya... House of Toninhas

Located in the city of Ubatuba, about 230km from Sao Paulo, this summerhouse is on a steep slope and in the presence of a dense Atlantic Forest, circumstances that led the project to a dialogue between the design and the exuberant nature of the surroundings. Adriano Pacelli The terrain imposed a structural challenge and the steep slope and a large number of rocks and native vegetation made access difficult and prevented the view of the sea. Adriano Pacelli Thus, the access to the house was designed to overcome the natural obstacle imposed by the terrain itself, guiding the user through the transition between the Atlantic Forest and the ocean view. A walkway marks the axis from the entrance of the house to the destination:... More

Puro Homes

The project is based on meeting a specific collective housing program. Inserted in a subdivision located in the new area of the city of Aveiro, the land is located on a corner, where a construction line will close. As such, the project idea is based on continuing the predominant lines of the adjacent building (since it is by the same author but from different times) Ivo Tavares Studio The project aims to make the most of the site's characteristics, such as views and sun exposure. The proposed volumetry intends to fill and articulate the existing with the new, at the same time that, in its development, its shape becomes demarcated and becomes a vertical element instead of a horizontal one. However, the horizontal slat design extends to... More

Cataldos Salon

Cataldo’s Woden Salon had to be state of the art in hairdressing salon design and reflects the excellence and standing achieved by the team at Cataldo’s Salon.      The design began with high expectations, a brief and a space which was a building shell. Out of a relatively small volume, the design was carefully sculptured to accommodate a multitude of physical and functional requirements of the salon. A palette  of materials representing natures raw materials, in their most developed and advanced form, were utilised  to create a composition comprising stone, timber, metal and glass. The design features colours based on white, chocolate and amber and finishes in aluminum, copper and chrome.   Expectations were high; to achieve the feeling of... More

CTN

The compact and opaque typology of the buildings of the original house did not take advantage of the landscaping quality offered by the immediate proximity of a public park. To meet the need for expansion, the agency recommended that the house be renovated by occupying the night area, giving it more intimate spaces, and designing a contrasting extension, by means of a very open volume for the day spaces.          The installation of a narrow extension has been designed to occupy all the exterior. This layout generates a clearer reading and identifies spaces, such as the new entrance to the north, or the pool to the south. With reference to the Farnsworth House by Mies Van Der Rohe, the t... Housing Experiment 3:2

Architecture is a snapshot of our current way of living. It is a synthesis of humanity in a time specific period. After the industrial revolution with the increasing reproduction of mass media, the introduction of new materials and new ways of transportation; the idea of a traditional interior space was transformed into a dialogue between interior and exterior. This change also challenged the boundaries of private and public spaces.   Housing Experiment 3:2 has the intention to question the physical and visual boundaries of space in single family housing. We pretend to create a visually continuous and connected area that is limited by a gradient boundary –rather than a physical wall- between the private and public areas of a ho... More

C house

The house is situated in one of Timisoara's marginal neighborhoods, in a recently constructed zone – heterogeneous in terms of volumes, their alignment and colours. Thus, we proposed a simple black and white volume. The chosen volume serves a double purpose: emphasizing the building in the given context and concealing the interior and exterior private space from the street. The white color highlights the volume's horizontal/ vertical dynamics, and the black color has the role of visually stretching the openings and emphasizing the openings. The facades have different dynamics in relation with their cardinal orientation. The main facade faces east, and it accentuates the horizontality of the volumes, following the street dynamics. The sout... More

MIRADOR HOUSE

Open to the river and sheltered towards the front, protecting its intimacy, it poses a path with different spatial perceptions. Setting off from the entrance stone portico, it continues with a bridge-like deck that crosses the patio and leads us onto the double height hall inside the house. A see-through wall with vertical gashes shows the fully glazed sitting room, which permits a visual continuum of the garden and the endlessly edged swimming pool that seems to merge with the river. The “lapacho” wooden pergola serves as a gallery and shelters a more intimate lower- level space. There is access from the top floor to this pergola –deck, the bannisters of which have been designed in a nautical language, using stainless steel cables and fitt... More
