Project • By BergmeyerMuseums

The only museum in the world dedicated to this era, The Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement (MAACM) was created by a team of visionaries and designers collaborating to bring this one-of-a-kind experience to life. Supporting the vision of collector, founder, and philanthropist Rudy Ciccarello and the building's architect, Alfonso Architects, Bergmeyer was asked to collaborate on the museum's retail and café environments, signage, and wayfinding design. Seamus Payne Commercial Photography Approaching the design of the café and retail store as an extension and enhancement of the visitor experience, our design team created environments that are complementary to the building's architecture and collection. The addition to Liljevalchs Konsthall is reserved without cowering. Its posture is that of a discreet aide attending to the existing art gallery. A small, precisely tailored operation. One hundred seventy square meters of glass roof let the whole sky into the building. It’s all rather simple. A square filled with molded skylights. Two meters wide and two meters high. Two straight walls and two leaning. All the way up in the building a thin glass membrane separates inside from outside. Below, the light plays exactly the way we want it. The Courtauld Gallery has re-opened after the biggest redevelopment since it first moved to its magnificent 18th century home, Grade I-listed Somerset House in the Strand, in 1989. Cultural-sector specialist architects and designers Nissen Richards Studio were charged with the interpretation of the new visitor experience for the project, considering the entirety of the visitor journey from arrival, through all three levels of gallery space, culminating in the extraordinary LMVH Great Room. Herzog & de Meuron tap into infrastructural challenges to turn M+ into desired industrial museum

The main challenge for Herzog & de Meuron was how to fulfill the client’s desire for an ‘industrial’ building on a tabula rasa site. To overcome this they tapped into another challenge for the reclaimed land site, the underground tunnel of the Airport Express that runs underneath. They excavated the leftover space around the tunnel and linked the underground spatially and structurally to the museum tower that sits on top. The in-between layer, between the underground and the tower, became the answer. © Kevin Mak “The outcome is a building that is not simply anchored in its surroundings; it is also formed by them. It is a clearly defined, almost archaic structure that echoes the iconic tradition of Ko... More

National Gallery of Greece

In 1896 the jurist and art-lover Alexandros Soutsos bequeathed his large art collection to the Greek State. At the time, no one could imagine how this collection would be used. However, this action played key role to the creation of the “National Gallery of Greece”, that was established in 1900 in Athens and became one of the most iconic buildings in the cultural history of the country. The “National Gallery”, that this year completes 121 years of operation, required a new architectural design, that would prepare it for a new era.  The architectural offices Grammatopoulos -Panousakis Architects και D Vasilopoulos Architects were responsible for the new design and AKTOR S.A. undertook the constr... The Himalayas Museum

The Himalayas Museum was designed to be situated within the existing Himalayas Centre designed by Arata Isozaki. As a “found” space — a raw unfinished concrete interior with soaring 15m ceilings — it had a particular power and resonance with the field of contemporary art. Thus it was decided that, rather than obscuring this construction, three “rocks” housing the museum’s tripartite program of contemporary art, classical art, and education, could be situated within the existing structure, thereby creating a tension between new and old, inside and outside, raw and refined. Caption The centre of the space was reserved for large scale installations. The “lecture” rock, facing this sp... More

Project • By cba Christian Bauer & Associes ArchitectesMuseums

The MNHA is located in the oldest quarter of the city of Luxembourg, where the historical architecture is part of the national heritage. Lukas Roth, Cologne Up to 1997, the museum was housed in a group of ancient buildings, whose limited surface was ill suited to the exhibition of new collections and to a modern approach to museography. It was therefore necessary to find a solution which would allow an extension from the 2100 m2 of the existing structure to the 4600 m2 required.  Lukas Roth, Cologne Christian Bauer and associates chose to maintain the historical area, with its harmonious proportions, as a contrast to the new part of the museum, which is characterised by a compact and pure form that does not interfere with t... Between the smoke and the mist Exhibition

The exhibition “Between the smoke and the mist. Sigfrido Koch Bengoechea”  shows  150 photographs structured in two themes: The first has as its axis the "Album of War", whose most notable content are the unreleased photographs of the effects of the bombings in the Basque Country by the Italian Legionary Air Force (Italy) and the Condor Legion (Germany) ( from  Guernica to the fall of Bilbao) Ebro and Madrid during the Spanish Civil War; the second focuses on bucolic photographs, perhaps nostalgic, published in the book "País Vasco: Guipúzcoa" taken many years after the war destroyed his beloved country.  The exhibition design is also structured in two rooms in total opposition: the war room is... Bombas Gens Art Center

Bombas Gens is an old industrial building with an unquestionable social-historical value and one of the rare remaining examples of the industrial architecture of the thirties. Its Art Deco façades and architecture make it a special, unique location for some new uses according to today needs. The new facilities have been created as an internationally renowned multi-use space where Fundació Per Amor a L’Art will carry out its three-branch activity (arts, society and research). "Our aim has always been to apply a homogeneous intervention criterion to the whole complex, and, at the same time, give each building, be it original or recently built, the characteristic features that it needs for its specific use." - Ramó...
