Elegant and lightweight, the viewpoint sits effortlessly on the cliffs of Ponta da Serreta, becoming a point of cultural interest and enhancing the island’s dissemination of art and public space.   Conceptually, the viewpoint is inspired by Mendonça’s poem “O voo do Queimado”. Like a feather that falls from the Queimado and graciously lands on the ground, the viewpoint creates momentum, an emblematic image that stands out for its simplicity and forcefulness. This project consists of 27 single-family dwellings built under a controlled-price regime, and the basic aim was therefore to optimize its costs effectiveness. The design, based in the vernacular houses of this region of Azores, seeks to enhance the versatility of uses and subsequent potential modifications to the physical features of the spaces. The operation area, which has a gentle eastward slope down to the lake, covers13.202m2, inserted in a transition zone of the Vila das SeteCidades. In the Atlantic island of São Miguel, in the Azores, an old stable from the beginning of the 20th century was converted into two guesthouses where history and contemporaneity coexist in balance.   The design's main goal was to keep the construction's character, lines, and its rural atmosphere, while adapting the enclosed structure to a completely new typology and contemporary regulations.
