The Bear Stand
Located approximately three-hours northeast of Toronto, Ontario, this 3,300-square-foot retreat is carefully situated along the shores of Contau Lake on a remote, seasonally isolated woodland spanning nearly 100 acres. Recalling childhood adventures exploring the surrounding lakes and forest, the clients wished to share this unique place with others by creating a place of reprieve tobe rented to vacationing families.
Nestled between the lake and an adjacent granite rock-face rising up to the south, the retreat serves as a jumping-off point to an expansive private trail network fashioned by the client. Seven Star Yufeng Club
The project is located in Seven Star Yacht Club - China's most beautiful dock - in Dapeng Peninsula, Shenzhen. It has China's natural semi-concave harbor, and it is the main shooting site of movie The Mermaid. The owner's original thought was to build a sailing classroom for teenagers. However, when the designer came to this place - a peaceful and warm site that is far away from busy streets and facing the vast sea - he got another idea; the Seven Star Yufeng Club was thus born. It is a private club where you could listen to the sea, a professional school where you could learn about sea, and it has a single-story apartment with a full view of the sea.

The apartment is located in one of the blocks making up Terraços de Bragança: the set of buildings designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira in Lisbon’s Chiado district that completed construction in 2004.
Working within the scope of a Siza Vieira project represents a difficultly desirable challenge. The inexorable weight of the inherent responsibility runs in parallel to a sense of pointlessness of intervening within a framework that requires no such work. We thus focused on the needs, desires and expectations of the client.

FENLON HOUSE
In the little-known neighborhood of Hermon, located just outside of downtown Los Angeles, a dilapidated 1920’s bungalow has undergone a major remodel, bringing new life to the old structure. The new addition to the front of the house forms a unique alliance with the remodeled existing house. This new frontispiece appears to be intimately nested within the older existing house, while maintaining a stark differentiation. The frontispiece has been clad in a clear cedar which contrasts the torched cedar that wraps the rest of the structure. The front addition integrates the house with the adjacent streetscape as it terraces down to the sidewalk and forms a long bench.

The Renovation of A House in Sils Maria
The project involves the renovation of part of a residential building in the square of Sils Maria that was originally a farmhouse. The recesses corresponding to the corners of the original stableare still visible and the project has restored the memory of its upright planks with stripsof larch and masonry. The house was ‘gutted’ preserving the external walls, insulated on the outside with a coating of plaster, and the still visible roof structure. It was re-partitioned with new cement slabs, a new staircase and the internal divisions necessaryfor the complex reorganization planned for the spaces. Through well thought out design and cleverly placed additions, this heritage home has been given a second life, transformed into a three bedroom, two bathroom home with a functional and practical layout.
To give the owner’s the sanctuary they were looking for, the master bedroom zone, complete with ensuite and robes has been tucked away to the rear of the house, providing a sense of privacy. Fitzroy Loft
Fitzroy Loft is located inside the 125 years oldMacRobertson Chocolate Factory in Fitzroy, adapted for mostly residential use in the early 90s. With original concrete floor and sawtooth roof structure, the space that our project occupies is a strata title on the first floor, with its own entry door at street level.
We approached the conversion mindful of its context and historical significance. Up keeping the integrity of the original factory bones was vital. Walls and floors that were built in more recent years, where torn down to expose charred beams and remnant paint, scares of its past. This was left untouched.
