CASA B . V

"I start a project when I visit a place." This phrase by Siza represents our design philosophy, and in particular, what happened with CASA B . V. In this case, the process also included choosing the property (purchased to be our future home). From the very beginning during the visits the trapezoidal floor plan offering unusual perspectives, the L-shaped terrace, the compact size and the great potential to redesign the layout gave us the feeling that this was our home, or better, our challenge. Stefano Maniero Some design ideas remained unchanged from the beginning to completion — such as the creation of the open space by joining the entrance and living room and the decision to leave the raw concrete beams and pillars exposed.... The Birch Library

Hwibong Elementary School's library was created as a space where reading, relaxation, and play coexist. In the space before entering the library, you can sit on the sofa and chat, unlike inside the library. It becomes a small community space in the school. The entrance is made of a glass door, so it is not stuffy because you can look inside. The big table, seen directly from the entrance, provides a space for several students to face each other and do group activities or discussions based on books. tqtq Studio After passing the big table, you will see a round space with curved windows. A small group of students can sit around and read books quietly. The triangular floor is a place where you can take off your shoes and go up, and you c... More

M&I Apartment

COFO architects, a Rotterdam-based firm, has transformed a relatively small and dark apartment into a generous home filled with light and colour. The clients are an empty-nester couple that wanted to convert their family apartment into a place to enjoy the next phase in their life. The design plays with openness and intimacy, introducing diagonal sight lines between functions. The entrance, the kitchen, and the living room are carefully combined into a single generous space where, thanks to the distinctive pavements, each area maintains its own character. A striking cupboard-wall organises the space. This robust and efficient L-shaped element encloses the two bathrooms in the centre of the apartment. Openings and niches lighten the volume... More

MEDIRAMA Dental CLinic

Interior Design Project for the Medirama Dental Clinic. For a dental clinic, having clean, aseptic and bright spaces is essential both for the doctors who work there and for the patients who perceive it as a safe place. The microcement floor and the white walls give a perception of cleanliness and order to the space, the addition of light birch wood in the false ceiling panels and in the plywood doors is of a completely different nature. These few wooden elements mean that for a generally cold and impersonal environment, it can become welcoming and bright. Almost a psychological help, which prepares and reassures patients about to undergo dental surgery. More

Harmood Street

This project is the full reconfiguration and extension of a small, semi-detached house in Kentish Town that was cramped, badly laid out and badly built. We worked closely with the client to understand their requirements. We provided them with additional space, good floor to ceiling heights throughout and the right light. We succeeded in getting permission for large side and rear extensions, with provision to lower the floor in the extension to create more height where possible, as well as open up a small rear patio. Both the extensions were designed to provide maximum light. Part of the loft space was also opened up to give height and space to the main rooms on first floor. Ply is the predominant material used as to clad the walls and st... More

MSC

The Czech branch of MSC, one of the largest shipping companies in the world, has moved to new offices in Smíchov, Prague. The new offices for almost 100 people are dominated by raw concrete, wood, plants and a shipping container. But getting it to the eighth floor was a challenge. The container first had to be cut and welded back to its original form in the offices.   The company's former offices lacked a space where employees could meet. CAPEXUS' architects therefore designed a relaxation area with a kitchenette, including informal seating.   CAPEXUS has created a facility that reflects MSC's identity: the reception and adjacent guest area are dominated by a large model ship. We also managed to place a shipping contain... More

Solvallagata 68

"Solvallagata68" is a residential project commissioned by a very friendly and social family who is used to host friends and relatives on a daily basis. For this reason the design concept’s goal was to create a spacious open-plan living area encouraging family members and their guests to spend time together. In order to reach the client’s needs it was necessary to demolish part of the wall, which divided the kitchen and the living room, drastically changing the old layout. The custom-made kitchen is developed along the three perimetral walls in order to optimize the room’s layout and create an empty area in the middle of the room, necessary to facilitate dense people flows. The white Corian countertop faces a wide window that b... Freedomek No.061

The “Sixty-one”Author’s report The “Sixty-one”, a home with the number Freedomky No.061, was assembled (to the surprise of neighbours) during one autumn Friday from 7 am to 3 pm, followed by the construction of the carport and terrace. It uses its compositional dimensions and sizes from the author’s previous modules and places them above each other, smaller S (4 x 7m) on top of larger M (4 x 11,5m). Modules were brought to the site fully furnished and equipped, including furniture. The Tachov “Sixty-one” stretches toward the sky and its proportions evoke a similarity with a stylized steamboat, also with the upper terrace – the deck at the fore. From becoming a real houseboat, it is only short of water it could anchor in. It is the ver... More

T Park

In August 2013 the City of Amsterdam gave the go-ahead for the redevelopment of an old store room under one of their offices on Jodenbreestraat in Amsterdam into a multifunctional plaza. This plan is part of the new flexible housing concept for their offices, which can be densified through realization of such plazas. CUBE is, after a closed competition, asked to develop this 530 m2 plaza. According to the City of Amsterdam it had to become an attractive area with an extraordinary appearance. The semi-public plaza can be used for working, collaborating, meeting, or eating and drinking the organic coffee, juices and sandwiches from the bar. There is also the possibility for holding presentations and meetings. The more functional parts of t... More
