Abrams Books retained Spacesmith for the site selection and design of their new 40,000 sf headquarters. Our team began by evaluating multiple locations while working with Abrams to develop new workplace standards to comfortably accommodate employees and provide them with needed collaboration spaces, as well as enhanced amenities. A 19th century landmarked building was chosen giving Spacesmith the opportunity to juxtapose the iconic with the new, a nod to Abrams long history in the publishing industry and its contemporary branding effort. Click & Collect is an online ordering area on the second floor of the department store, with four spacious fitting rooms, a lobby and a bar. Caption On 80 sq. m combined three functional spaces: a cash register, a comfortable seating area with a bright yellow sofa, fitting rooms with large mirrors and hanging chandeliers. Caption The interior is dominated by materials such as molten glass and marble. Cosiness is also created by elements of designer decor, aroma diffusers and a collection of books by Assouline and Taschen. Dreams + Necessity + Available resources = Project Solving the basic equation of materializing dreams through a bounded Budget, we initiated the construction process of our architectural office. The exercise begins with the experimental transformation process of materials, such as earth, Wood and glass, configuring them between two existing trees: a flame tree, that stays outside but framed, and a guavirá tree, that stands in the middle of the space to share our company.The 30-cm rammed earth walls hold the weight of the roof, resting in only 20 cm of its width, exploiting the structural qualities of this material. The values ​​and new activities of the publishing house were the trigger that motivated the image makeover for Librerías Buena Prensa. Panta Rhei is a well established and popular bookstore in Slovak Republic. Café Dias is a coffee place, which became an addition to in Panta Rhei branches to support bookloving atmosphere. With its size, Panta Rhei is one of the largest subjects in its market segment. We were chosen for a competition to provide a fresh new design for the branches, and after two rounds we came out as winners. The new Mondadori store designed by Migliore + Servetto Architects, is an innovative, Italian space, expressing the original concept of “Mondadori for you” in a renovated dimension which guides the visitor in the heart of “Mondadori Experience”. A welcoming area to return to, of ‘high density’ products and people-friendly, where the visitors can easily find their way around at their own pace, depending on needs.
