The Louvered House

Located in the harsh, arid landscape of Ahmedabad, The Louvered House by andblack design studio is a programmatic response to the challenges of climate and the increasing isolation of contemporary domestic life. The project reimagines the traditional relationship between the built form and the natural environment, prioritizing a lifestyle that is physically and visually tethered to the outdoors. Ishita Sitwala “The goal was to ensure a seamless interaction between indoor and outdoor spaces, making the house feel like an extension of its natural surroundings,” says Jwalant of how this bungalow in Ahmedabad came to be.  They are outgoing and warm—the kind of people who love to entertain and host—yet they al... Q-apartment

In the heart of bustling Thảo Điền lies a serene retreat—an apartment transformed into a living memory studio, where raw materials, moody light, and abstract art come together to tell an intimate, emotional story. Quang Tran This 110m² space was once an old office in a decades-old apartment block. Rather than opting for a conventional renovation, the owner—an interior design veteran—chose to create a distinctive living space that doubles as a canvas for material experimentation and design exploration. Quang Tran “I love the smell of rusted iron, the scent of earth after rain—as if materials can hold memories,” he says. Quang Tran Inspired by a craftsman’s workshop, the apartme... More

Brick and concrete Mlawa House maximizes the potential of a small site

In the small town of Mlawa, Poland, this budget-conscious one-storey house by James & Mau was constructed mainly of brick and concrete.   Jakub Certowicz Locating the house to the west of the site frees up as much of the existing garden to the east as possible. With substantial 4m side setbacks, perimeter brick walls  - which by law can only reach a height of 2.2 m -  divide the long green setbacks into a series of small garden patios. The walls further function as thermo-clay loading-bearing walls, supporting a concrete shell that supports the upper height of the house at 3.3 m.   Jakub Certowicz To the east and west ends of the south façade, two towers at 5.5 meters in height give an ur...
