Toronto residence is a contemporary reimagining of traditional Edwardian gable homes
Toronto-based architecture and interior design studio Batay-Csorba Architects (BCA) has completed the Westminster Residence, a contemporary reimagining of the traditional Edwardian gable homes found in Toronto’s residential High Park neighborhood. Built on a corner plot, the new home “aims to provide an underlying sense of familiarity and continuity within the archetypal roof form,” says BCA. The home’s interior is concealed beneath a steep terracotta roof: “the project explores the notion of spatially occupying the underside of the roof, akin to an attic,” explains the studio.

Storefront in Amsterdam by Dok architecten features sculpted facade of hand-molded bricks
The Italian fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana has opened a store in Amsterdam's P.C. Hooftstraat retail district. The distinctive facade, designed by locally-based Dok architecten, draws inspiration from the image of a 'tough lady on high heels.'
The facade's design incorporates sloping surfaces to create a dynamic play of shadows, achieving a balance of strength and elegance. According to Dok architecten, the robust figure of the woman transfers her power to the 'long legs' of the base, which then rest on very narrow 'high heels' on the ground.
