Vught

New energy-neutral labor building (store) within the prison of Vught. The store is one of the labor facilities in the penitentiary complex. This building takes a special place within the penitentiary regime. It is a social environment where inmates can earn some extra money and gain work experience. Important considering their resocialization after serving their sentence. Maarten Meester | Stijn Poelstra Maarten Meester | Stijn Poelstra Maarten Meester | Stijn Poelstra   Focuspoint in the design is to contribute to the inmates' perspective on life outside the walls. By turning the store into a light and comfortable space in which all security components are (invisible) integrated into the design as carefully as possib... More

Hunting lodge 'In den Argus'

We had the honor of designing the restoration and extension of this old hunting lodge. The old hunting lodge in the Argus is located in the middle of the dunes of Santpoort. After years of limited maintenance and disrepair, the house was in very poor condition. We have been commissioned by the new owners to restore and expand the old hunting lodge and make it more sustainable. An extra floor has been added underground in the dune, which is provided with sufficie... More

Mirror cube Museumplein Amsterdam

A mirroring cube between the entrances of the Stedelijk Museum and the Van Gogh Museum We won the pitch to transform a technical installation space from the underlying parking lot into an object that fits better into the surroundings of the Museumplein. The idea behind this cube refers to a concept by artist Aziz Bekkaoui. The cube is covered with a reflective chrome steel finish. The philosophy behind it is twofold: first, it is a way to negate an essentially unwanted object by absorbing its volume into the environment through the mirrors. On the other hand, by creating such a mirror, the ambitious expansion of the Stedelijk and the Van Gogh Museum can be seen at a glance. BuroNord | Maarten Meester BuroNord | Maarten Meester More

Energy-neutral and demountable office building

To realize the requested 325 workplaces on a compact plot, we designed a bright symmetrical compact volume with two atria to provide the interior with sufficient natural light. The atria start on the first floor and have a cantilever on the top floor to allow daylight to penetrate as deeply as possible into the office. Image Courtesy BuroNord A double facade has been 'folded' around the sun-loaded facades, consisting of profiled aluminum cladding and external sun blinds. The external sun blinds are an integral part of the facade, designed in line with and in one plane with the profiled plating. Wispe Brewery

The Sint Laurentius Church in Weesp, on the outskirts of Amsterdam, is a neo-Gothic cross church designed by Theo Asseler and built in 1876. As part of an intensive renovation in which the foundation was also restored, we were asked to design a brewery and a pub for Wispe brewerys.  Because of the existing characteristic qualities, we tried to keep our interventions as modest as possible. Our design choices were limited to the essential and we attempted to let them not compete with the existing.  With a certain degree of reticence in the use of materials and color an interior is realized that strengthens the existing spatial qualities of the church and brings the light back deep into the central nave.  Des...
