Widnau Nursing Home

The proposed design concept makes residents the central consideration. An apartment format forms the home’s organisational basis: separate sleeping and living areas underline the each room’s place within an apartment-like residence. This system can be customised depending on the level of care required and the desired privacy, while also encouraging personalisation and the residents’ sense of ownership. Adolf Bereuter for cukrowicz nachbaur architekten Adolf Bereuter for cukrowicz nachbaur architekten Adolf Bereuter for cukrowicz nachbaur architekten The apartments are organised as two interlinked rings of eight units each, with two such groupings per floor. Within the rings, light arrives via three-storey a... More

The faceted design of a new residential building responds to its surroundings

In Stans, Switzerland, Zürich-based Bob Gysin Partner (BGP) has completed the new Mettenweg residential building. A place for “people with special care and care needs, regardless of age,” this new edifice replaces the historic Mettenweg home — with its outdated infrastructure, the original home was no longer able to hold a care permit. The building’s faceted construction is designed to integrate the residence with the neighboring buildings and nature, while at the same time defining its own unique presence. Roger Frei, Zurich   Faceted construction inside and outside The site in which the Mettenweg residence sits includes a number of structures from different eras, built in a hamlet-like formati... Koblach Social Centre

Cukrowicz Nachbaur’s concept applies themes from both the built and natural surroundings to a composition of three buildings of varying character, size and height. The three-storey existing structure along with a new two storey nursing home and three storey assisted living centre are brought together around a sheltered courtyard. The nursing home has assumed the height of its pre-existing neighbour, presenting itself as a sensitive extension at the transition point from built to natural. In accordance with the client’s brief, the existing building will be preserved except for minor changes to its internal organisation. Old and New

In the middle of the Flemish fields, we started working on an existing single-family house and adjoining stables. Together with the owners and their recently retired parents, we transformed the existing farmhouse into two homes, one of which is a care home, where it is possible to continue to live for life. Ypsilon Business Photography During this renovation, we endeavoured to disrupt the typical Flemish rural character of the area as little as possible. The shape and continuity of the existing roofs were preserved, along with almost all of the exterior walls of the original structures. The existing house was converted into care accommodation. A new volume was placed within the boundaries of the adjacent barns, housing the living quar... More

Villa Kameleon

This care home in the small municipality of Zoersel was designed on the initiative of a private client. They set up a partnership with non-profit organisation Emmaus to develop a residential project for the family’s granddaughter and eight other residents with a mental disability. Stijn Bollaert The beautiful building site is located near the Monnikenheide domain, on the transition of a forest and a residential area. The green character of the site was preserved as much as possible and the new house was designed as a rational and hypercompact volume with a recognizable hexagonal ground plan. Stijn Bollaert The building was carefully positioned into the forest with special attention to preserve the proximity of the trees on... More

Health Residence - Lanzo Torinese Italy

Through an extensive restoration, Picco Architetti has transformed a former nineteenth-century college on the outskirts of Turin. Built by San Giovanni Bosco back in 1870, today the building consists of four floors and accommodates a hundred beds. The ceramic collection Code, Taupe color, shows its high affinity with the architectural rhythm of the structure. The 30x120cm, 20mm thick, format dresses the main entrance and the external courtyard with the purity of the stone and the force of the cement. The same Taupe tone from Elements Design, a resin-effect line with an R10 finish, decorates the bedrooms as well as the meeting and relaxation areas on the ground floor, where a porch with large windows blends past and present in a single, lumino... Olsrød nursing home

Research shows that the architecture itself can be caring and have a positive influence on people’s well-being. The key in this context is to create a human-scaled architecture, as we design Olsrød’s nursing home as a green inclusive village with a homely atmosphere.Village for elderly with cognitive impairment A new living and treatment centre for aging people with different cognitive impairments should be focused on the needs of residents and their relatives. The centre must contain well-known elements from the residents’ everyday life, which can create a feeling of security and contribute to the residents’ control over their everyday experiences. It therefore places a greater demand on the buildings not be... More
