Mid-Century Magic

A study in elegance and restraint, this renovated mid-century modern residence marries architectural authenticity with curated comfort. Dumont Dumont Afternoon light drapes itself across the living room, catching the soft sheen of the solid ‘Mvule’ timber wall cladding with cantilevered shelves — each plank a ribbon of warm grain, drawing the eye toward the central, cantilevered mantle that seems to float effortlessly above the fireplace. An unidentical pair of our low-slung Chic sofas upholstered in Warwick velveteen green fabric and sitting on solid ‘Mvule’ legs embraces the room, their gentle texture playing against the playful grain of our Sixties Lounge Chairs in solid ‘Palm’ with cu... The Elea Sofa

An alluring illusion. What first meets the eye when taking a glance at the Elea sofa is the gorgeous grain on the solid timber sides combined with the almost monolithic cushioning and upholstery. If you take the time to appreciate it, one will come to the realisation that the sofa appears to be hovering off the ground. Meticulously engineered and carefully machined, the slim but sturdy height-adjustable legs are at just the right height to make the sofa appear floating above the ground which led us to aptly name the sofa 'Elea', which means 'float' in Swahili. The framework is made from solid timber using traditional carpentry techniques to ensure a rigid and durable sofa frame after which the loose cushions are precisely marked and forme... More

This was the datum upon which this house grew, and the resultant decision made right from the beginning to create a building with two defining moments. Paris Brummer Paris Brummer Firstly, a distinctive roofscape was conceived to provide protection from the prevailing wind conditions, which during the summer months arrive strongly from the seaward aspect (SE) while in winter these come from over the mountain (NW). The curved apex of the roofsca... More

Geschutswerf

Located in the eastern quays of Amsterdam, the striking 19th century warehouse of the Geschutswerf sets the scene for this transformation. The apartment has been re-designed to meticulously embed within the renovated structure, embracing the robust, industrial nature of the state monument. Peter Mann Peter Mann Peter Mann Over the past 30 years the apartment has been modified and interior layers have been added by different users, leading to a fragmented floorplan. The approach for this project was to strip the space back to its bare bones to holistically form a coherent living space both spatial and technically. Utilising new sustainable heating and energy systems whilst liberating the historic fabric to create spaciousness... More
