Dolce Sitges

The brief comprised converting three contiguous rooms into a single room so that it could be used for large office meeting events or weddings while maintaining the option of using them separately. The fixed partitions that separated the central room from the adjacent rooms needed to be replaced by mobile phones that could allow their movement, while maintaining the current capacity if the Hotel required it.  Jump & Fly The appearance of the rooms is simple as the design do not want to distract the users of the event that going to take place. The aim was to design a naked box that the companies or wedding couples could dress up according to their needs, spicing the room up with their branding and display.  Jump & F... More

Maker Space - Santo Agostinho School

High ceiling buildings and architectures of austerity, many times can't follow up the dynamic and changing lifestyle of the young. That happened in Santo Agostinho School. They hired us to create a project to their "fab lab" space. The school has grown and its pedagogical methods is now more modern. However, not all the interior spaces inside the old building could keep up with the innovations. After deconstructing some classrooms and a restroom, we created a  maker space classroom where students can develop activities, games and pieces of equipment and teachers have the ideal structure to incite group work. The industrial environment was the inspiration to create the maker space. We used metal roofing as a wall coating, cement floor and... More

Arizona State University - Washington DC

CORE completes full historic building renovation for Arizona State University's DC headquarters at 1800 Eye Street, NW.As Design Architect, CORE renovated and expanded the historic structure that was purportedly the first concrete and masonry residential building in DC. Saflex Acoustic PVB Interlayer

Innovative acoustic interlayer for laminated glass Modern building designs emphasize liberal use of glass. Meanwhile, building owners and occupants demand comfort—including reduced ambient noise. However, sound transmission is greatest through glazing made with ordinary window glass. This is especially a challenge for designers and engineers developing urban projects along highways, railroads, and airports. The answer is not less glass but new glazing materials, such as Saflex® Acoustic interlayers with proven sound-dampening performance.   Exterior applications: Isolating interior building spaces from exterior sound is critical. Nearly all buildings have areas that could be adversely affected by high levels of sound tran... More

Wissahickon Charter School

Metcalfe worked with Wissahickon Charter School (WCS) to design a new 48,000-square-foot school building, on a brownfield adjacent to the Awbury Arboretum in Germantown. WCS’s mission focuses on the environment, service learning, and family involvement. Its new home is a light-filled, sustainably constructed building featuring a green roof, public meeting spaces, composting, a student-run bio-diesel program, rainwater permeable parking and sidewalks, and a programmatic connection to the Awbury’s gardens and farmland for outdoor education. The school’s entry and hallways are punctuated by social spaces that facilitate informal learning and social interaction. 2013 PA Brownfields Conference, Extreme Makeover Award Winner More
