In Grenoble, Baumschlager Eberle Architekten has completed Presqu’île - Spring, an office building constructed not far from the city’s main train station and the Europole business district. Backdropped by the drama of the mountains, this aesthetically distinct curved building was designed with flexible floorplans and passive environmental strategies that helped it achieve a sustainability profile that earned it BREEAM Excellent. Urban context Village im Dritten (Village in the third district) is a newly developed quarter between Landstraßer Gürtel and Otto-Preminger-Straße in the north-east, with a park for everyone in the middle. The Gürtelbogen, a two-storey commercial building, shields the residential complex behind it from the heavily frequented Gürtel. The guiding idea of “climate-resilient district development” focuses on parks, façade greening, roof gardens and percolating pavements, but also on social sustainability. Revitalising the city centre The redevelopment of the 800-metre-long Grotestraat in Nijverdal (NL) is distinctive because of its green-blue structure with a climate-adaptive wadi (bioswale) and water-bearing plant pockets around the trees. The revitalisation of the city centre and dealing with climate change go hand in hand in this project. The landscaping qualities of the surrounding area are now visible and experienceable right to the core of Nijverdal. The area covered by the project is 19,200 m2.
