Creation of an apartment in the rural section of a farmhouse in Praz-Pury The project involves the creation of an apartment in the partially disused rural part of a 1930s farmhouse. Fribourg farmhouses of that era housed both living quarters and farm functions under one roof. The rural section typically consisted of two stables flanking a central passageway — the fourragère — a through-space used for feeding livestock, which also benefited from additional height allowing hay to be stored above the stables. Swiss architecture studio BARD YERSIN architectes has completed the transformation of a nineteenth-century farmhouse in La Bruyère, Vuisternens-devant-Romont, Switzerland. The structure is typical of the region, where dwelling and agricultural functions are housed beneath a single roof. Willem Pab No longer used for agricultural purposes and located outside the building zone, the volume — considerable in scale — had become difficult to maintain in relation to the limited habitable surface permitted. Rooted in the language of traditional farm architecture, Timbertop is a contemporary retreat conceived as a weekend home for an active family of five. Perched on a hilltop clearing, the residence offers sweeping views of southwestern Ontario’s Niagara Escarpment and its iconic terrain of undulating farmland and forested ridges. The 200-acre property is almost entirely woodland and home to deer, porcupines, and wild turkeys. A new greenhouse and an educational pavilion transform the rooftop of Collège Flora Tristan into a productive and pedagogical urban farm. Located atop a secondary school in Paris, the project supports the work of Veni Verdi, an urban agriculture association that cultivates fruits, vegetables, and flowers as part of the school’s educational program. The rooftop—originally intended as a school playground—already offered spatial qualities compatible with productive use. Located in Dutchess County along a quiet country road, this project began with the purchase of a long-abandoned farmhouse in the Scenic Hudson Valley of New York. Untouched for more than twenty years, the structure had fallen into deep disrepair—but beneath the decay was a rare charm. It’s simple, humble form sat gracefully within a landscape of rolling fields and classic stone walls. Will Scott   The conversion and extension of an existing stable block. The building provides for various animals, including alpaca, chickens, pigs and sheep. We updated and adapted the existing building layout, to create a secure courtyard with two new additional wings housing a garage, store and pottery studio.
