This Bondi residence underwent two seperate renovations, both of which were designed by Sydney's Catherine de Meur Interiors. The first part of the project encorporated a refresh of the ground floor, a renovation which included the kitchen, lounge, laundry and powder room.  The objective of Home Low Phase One was to freshen and update with a focus on lifestyle awareness and flow within the home. Lavishly endowed with glowing Australian timber and limestone, this home has a robust but luxe materials palette "from the earth", says Abe McCarthy of Abe McCarthy Architects. Design IntentThe design intent was to create interiors that resonated with potential discerning guests as a home away from home. What was unique for us is that we had to complete this project from existing stock in a matter of weeks. Every element from loose furniture to art to cutlery were all carefully considered. We started with two apartments (named Harry & Franklin) that lacked soul despite having just been completed, lighting fixtures were an afterthought, but the building is spectacular, very New York. What appeals to us now is that both apartments are warm,  individual in style, inviting with a timeless aesthetic. There might be some additions to come…a stylist is never happy! More

The approach for the renovation and extension of the Hopetoun Road Residence is to retain the existing structure as an anchoring element, adding a series of pavilions underneath a floating copper roofline that wraps around the original building. Embracing the client’s desire to maintain a fairly conventional residential structure, the design strengthens the form by creating a gable façade at the front and back with a clearly defined outline. Clad in polished grey render, the gables emphasize solidity and give the house a re-established sense of history and permanence.
