The Holy Shrine of Imam Reza, or simply the Razavi Shrine, is located in the center of Mashhad in northeastern Iran and consists of multiple interconnected mosques, museums, seminaries, a library and cemetery, all using central courtyard typology. The oldest building dates back to 1230 AD and has expanded to its current size of nearly one million square meters which makes it the largest mosque in the world that attracts over 30 million pilgrims every year. The Himalayas Museum was designed to be situated within the existing Himalayas Centre designed by Arata Isozaki. As a “found” space — a raw unfinished concrete interior with soaring 15m ceilings — it had a particular power and resonance with the field of contemporary art. In the novel, it also represents the literary reflection of the residence of the Buddenbrook family.The complex overlapping of fiction and reality must be made tangible in the rehabilitation and new construction of the museum which thus becomes a place of life and narrative history.The “Beletage” of the novel becomes a scenographic object of fiction and stimulation of the imagination. Located deep in Rold Forest in Northern Jutland, the new Danish Cold War Museum has been designed to convey the story of one of Denmark’s best kept secrets – the Cold War bunker REGAN Vest that was secretly built in the 1960s during the Cold War to house the government and monarch in case of a nuclear war.
