Lycée Descartes

For 27 years, the architecture and design firm ARPIO has been developing an innovative and sustainable approach to delivering large-scale projects in Morocco and beyond. Jean-Claude Laffitte ARPIO ARCHITECTS, in partnership with the consulting firm Coco Architecture, winners of the international competition organized by the French Embassy and AEFE, are reimagining the Lycée Descartes in Rabat. Their concept draws inspiration from the traditional house organized around a central courtyard—sometimes planted—to manage light, wind, and sunlight. CASA A PATIO

The design of this residential building is characterized by the presence of three patios, each one having different sizes and functions. The first one we encounter coming from outside separates the master part from the services one. Inside the house the spaces are arranged around a central patio, which is covered by a large skylight. This space contributes to the internal climate well-being, allowing for the natural ventilation of the internal spaces during the summer months and providing solar gains in winter periods.
