Markthal Rotterdam
Today Queen Máxima of the Netherlands opens Markthal Rotterdam, a project by developer Provast. Markthal is the first covered food market of the Netherlands, drawing inspiration from food markets in Stockholm, Barcelona and Valencia. The roof of the market hall is an arch accommodating 228 apartments, underneath the hall are 1,200 parking spaces and a supermarket. The combination of market hall and housing is a new typology and, located in Rotterdam’s city center, is expected to attract 4,5 to 7 million visitors each year. The construction of Markthal, a design by MVRDV, took five years to be completed. The project was executed by contractors J.P van Eesteren, Mobilis and Martens en Van Oord.

BAHRAIN PAVILION EXPO 2015
Archaeologies of Green, the pavilion of the Kingdom of Bahrain, at the Expo Milano 2015 is a poetic interpretation of the cultural agrarian heritage of the country, which stems from the ancient civilization of Dilmun.
With ten distinctive fruit gardens, containing trees that will be fruit–bearing at different moments throughout the six-month duration of the exhibition, the pavilion also features archaeological artifacts that celebrate the millennia long tradition of agriculture and perpetuate the many myths of Bahrain as the location of the Garden of Eden and the land of the million palm trees.

Heijmans ONE
A solution for young professionals living on their own who earn too much to be considered for a house association property, but do not earn enough to purchase a home. The ONE, house for single person occupation that can be moved or dismantled, offers a solution for wasteland and for the bottleneck in the housing market. The houses can be connected to the existing electricity and water networks; in addition, part of the electricity consumption is provided by the integrated solar panels on the roof.

WALLS
For Thomas Trum, public spaces are often unnecessarily anonymous and forlorn, with many a random wall crying out for some care and attention. Trum knows this at first hand – he spent three months driving around the Netherlands in search of these forgotten spots. Armed with white overalls and a van full of paint, he applied splashes of colour wherever he could, transforming even the blandest surface into a bright canvas. “It’s a way of giving such places an added value and helping people to experience their surroundings in a new way,” he explains.

Dutch Design Week 2015 marks the introduction of the first product of Vlak.
Vlak makes high-tech lighting. The Vlak 1 is a desk light that has been formed from a single piece of printed circuit board. Combining modern production techniques with a timeless design, an ultrathin product is created.
Twist the knob and a soothing, warm light is emitted by the lamp.
Turn further, and the light becomes a bright day-light shine. Vlak 1 gives you the cozy light of an incandescent in a modern, energy efficient form.

The unique technique to influence the blossoming beauty of orchids by VG Colours inspired Willemijn de Wit and Ulrike Jurklies to visualise an experience that is so difficult to put in words: ‘Mourning takes time’. The orchid installation shows the changing beauty of colour-influenced flowers as a symbol of mourning, visualizing the overwhelming feeling that temporary takes control of the whole body.

In 1921, the former director of the Royal Academy of Art, the Hague (KABK) bought a copy of the famous doors ‘Porta del Paradiso’(1425) by Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378-1455).The original doors were based in eastern portal of the building of the Baptisterium in Florence.Nowadays the original doors are situated at the Opera del Duoma museum Florence and a copy remains in the Baptisterium. Coexist collection KABK In 1921, the former director of the KABK bought a copy of the famous doors ‘Porta del Paradiso’(1425) by Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378-1455). These plaster doors form the basis of part of my graduation collection ‘Coexist’. The collection consists of 5 objects which are derived from copying various locations in the academy. The negatives of this copies get a new identity and together form my furniture collection. More

Since the beginning of her design career, Margje Teeuwen has been fascinated by the beauty of shapes that originateby crumbling paper. It inspired her to design a collection of tailor-made lights. Her encounter with designer Erwin Zwiers, formed a new source of inspiration. Always experimenting with new materials, he came across a multifunctional non-woven plastic, which was ideal for designing a light.
