MoreIn 1921, the former director of the Royal Academy of Art, the Hague (KABK) bought a copy of the famous doors ‘Porta del Paradiso’(1425) by Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378-1455).The original doors were based in eastern portal of the building of the Baptisterium in Florence.Nowadays the original doors are situated at the Opera del Duoma museum Florence and a copy remains in the Baptisterium. The doors tell the story of the old testament of the bible, fragmented in ten panels.Michelangelo was shocked by the craftsmanship and beauty of the doors and named it the Porta del Paradiso (The Gates of Paradise)For a few years Nynke Koster had the fantasy about copying the doors in the academy. She wondered what the doors would look like in a contra mold. If it could be an object to use, to walk on, sit on etc. This new way of looking to the story of the panels opens up this new world of interpretation. It opens up a new perspective, almost 600 years later.
