People Pavilion; Elevated Ground
The “People Pavilion” begins by approaching the concept of “Livable Scape”, simulating the opportunities by repurposing the Garden space of Bangkok City Hall during non-operational hours. This is achieved by creating a “public” space in the form of a pavilion that serves as a meeting place where people can meet, gather, encounter, have conversations, discuss, and support different activities for people in various roles.

First Crescent
The property, and subsequently the plan of the house, focused on Camps Bay beach, and the views of Lion’s Head in a Northerly direction. There are also great views back to The Twelve Apostles and the Cable Station. To capitalize on the views, meant that the design also needed to respond to issues of privacy with the neighbour’s property. Clerestory frameless glazing (skylights) replaced structure and framed views which might otherwise have been missed. Sandblasting of the full height glazing at the eastern boundary enabled us to maximize light to the linear passage and maintain views of the mountain peaks whilst adhering to councils requirements and ensuring privacy of the neighbouring property.

Morris Arboretum, Out on a Limb
Metcalfe worked with Morris Arboretum to craft a unique treetop experience - a place to learn from nature. The exhibit extends along 450 feet of elevated pathways within the arboretum’s forest. Our design balances perceived danger, actual safety, beautiful materials, and real trees. A visitor favorite is the “Squirrel Scramble,” an open-net climb suspended 50 feet above the ground where visitors can play and lounge in the forest canopy.
