Waaplayscape takes a radical (yet playful) approach to an industrial neighbourhood regeneration

Designed by we architech anonymous, Waaplayscape takes a radical approach to an urban site within an industrial warehouse complex by grafting layers onto the existing roof and courtyard spaces between a building complex comprised of one warehouse and one office building.  The result is a new place for play distinct from the surrounding industrial vernacular. Tian Fan Fan The technique of hooking new functions onto an existing mass results in clear functional gains for the previously unusable area. This includes increasing area under the central mound by 600 sqm and utilizing extra available area on the roof which accounts for 879 sqm. The Rainham Marshes Nature Reserve is a bold departure from other reserves from the UK’s Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). This former military firing range in Essex has been transformed into a 362-hectare nature reserve and has been designated “Special Site of Scientific Interest” because of its importance as a place for wildlife. The grounds of the Waldorf School in Prenzlauer Berg possess a unique urban positioning between socialist prefabricated structures, Wilhelminian style blocks and the green spaces of the Jewish cemetery. The school building, having undergone a spirited renovation process, is a 5-storey prefab building from the 1970s.The after-school care centre and later extensions were designed in a completely different style.
