The renovation of this 1930s Veluwe farmhouse focuses on restoring the original structure while creating a light-filled, contemporary living environment. In the former stable, several historic roof trusses that had been removed over the years were carefully reintroduced, strengthening the spatial experience and preserving the constructive logic of the building. The former residential farmhouse on Brandsweg was destroyed after a fire. The historical context called for restoration of the rural appearance to contemporary standards. The resident’s wish was a sustainable life-proof home with all support functions on the first floor. Caption The main volume of the new farmhouse remained the same in ridge and gutter height. To prevent cluttering, the length of the house has been increased. This makes the farmhouse house more recognizable from the street and allows all functions in the new main volume. Being a nature lover, the client opts to have a holiday home alike sculpture stalled in his farmland. The site is located amidst the coconut grove and paddy fields giving a scenic approach to the site from the main road. The design objective is to setup a complete leisure destiny for his family within a built envelope, as well as the utilization of vista around farmland.
