Raw House

The site is located on the mountainside with a view of the ridge in the distance, and the mountain terrain in the front with the sun behind gives off a bright and colorful light that allows people to feel nature intact. The first thought design team had when looked at the site was what would be the attitude of accepting nature as it is without damaging it, the attitude of living in nature, and what the architecture reflecting them looks like. The height difference of the site was more than two stories, and it accesses the road at the higher side, but the flat ground suitable for building a house was small. The site was barely big enough for a yard, and it was a hill. Jinbo Choi Jinbo Choi Jinbo Choi Jinbo Choi Jinbo C... More

Nabi House

When the client, with a concerned look, showed us a triangular plot of land recently removed from a greenbelt zone, we felt it was a fateful moment—the beginning of an adventure in a triangular world. Choi Jinbo To the young couple, expecting to build a home for themselves and their child, the land must have seemed insufficient and inconvenient. But we saw in it the potential to enjoy both city and nature at the fringe of the urban boundary. Choi Jinbo A triangular plot, given the same area, naturally has longer sides than a rectangular one. We saw an advantage in the fact that one of those long edges faced a 25-meter-wide road. The neighborhood itself had a Janus-like duality: to the north of the new road, sparse factori... More

Jeju Island Wedding Studio Zera

Jeju, known for its frequent winds, is home to an abundance of cedar trees. The reason for this is painful. During the Japanese occupation, indiscriminate logging occurred, and Japanese cedars were planted as compensation, continuing to thrive until today. However, thanks to the cedar trees, Jeju’s barren mountains and fields were filled, and the trees provided protection for the golden, ripening tangerines from the wind.  Byun Jongseok Byun Jongseok "Kyungheung Farm," located in Shinheung-ri and Sumang-ri in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo, is a historic farm that pioneered tangerine farming in Namwon. Cedars were planted around the tangerine fields and along the paths when the farm was established. Over 50 years later, the ceda... More

Aroeira Garden

Every project comes with its own challenges, and this one was no exception. The previous location had a neglected garden, with many years of very poor maintenance, leading to a garden that was not with any structure, meaning, or feeling. Inês Jardim The first step for the concept design was to understand the opportunities given by the location in agreement with the house's architectural style. Based on that, we've developed a design inspired in the Mediterranean gardens of the south of Italy, Spain, and some locations of Portugal. Once the concept achieved, was mandatory to structure the design in order to turn the garden into "one piece", meaning that all the spaces should be connected and present the same "language". The c... More

The Story of Gardening

The Story of Gardening museum has been awarded a RIBA South West Award 2021 and a RIBA South West Award Sustainability Award 2021, and the Newt in Somerset have received the RIBA South West Client of the Year 2021. “…..for the signature intervention, the client brought in Stonewood Design, appointed on the strength of its 2015 RIBA award-winning Gloucestershire Pod Gallery. The architect felt its 1000m2 ‘Story of Gardening’ museum was as much part of the weighty architectural legacy of the site as it was of The Newt’s expanding visitor experience. Originally to be sited further south, it was moved to its current position only when the Bekkers decided to install a winding treetop walkway, ‘The Viper&rsq... More
