Every project comes with its own challenges, and this one was no exception.
The previous location had a neglected garden, with many years of very poor maintenance, leading to a garden that was not with any structure, meaning, or feeling.
The first step for the concept design was to understand the opportunities given by the location in agreement with the house's architectural style.
Based on that, we've developed a design inspired in the Mediterranean gardens of the south of Italy, Spain, and some locations of Portugal.
Once the concept achieved, was mandatory to structure the design in order to turn the garden into "one piece", meaning that all the spaces should be connected and present the same "language".
The choose of materials was a very unique and important part of the concept, using the majority of wood and tiles.
Regarding the surroundings, the garden is enclosed between two neighboring plots, an access road, and a lakefront. Was one of the main objectives to keep the privacy by the side limits (the neighbors) and to embrace the unique opportunity of a lakefront, developing in this way the social area towards the lake, establishing a landscape continuity.
The placement of the pool was carefully planned in order to promote the continuity feeling of the landscape, bringing in some way the feeling of the lake into the residential areas by placing the border of the pool close to the water limit.
The garden itself provided another kind of opportunity with some of the existing vegetation, allowing to development of an entirely new landscape approach with full-growth vegetation and carefully flowing the garden's layout to take the most of it.
