Time Memories

JG PHOENIX recently completed a new restaurant in Shantou City, Guangdong, China "The client and I are friends for many years. He has been involved in catering industry for decades and often recalls people's simple pursuit of the taste of food back to the late 1980s and the early 1990s. The taste of food in our memory is common and intimate, which inspired me in the design. For post-80s generation, home in memory is usually associated with terrazzo floor, old wooden furniture, black-and-white photos, old-style radio bathed in sunlight at dusk, and the aroma spreading from kitchen...Those simple scenes gradually came into our mind as conceiving the design. I believe that space is a place for emotional attachment. For this project, I tried t... More

APARTMENT ZELTGASSE VENNA

When Stephan Vary and his architecture and design studio Labvert were recently contracted to redecorate at apartment at a nineteenth-century building in the 8 th district of Vienna, there is a special challenge in store for them. The clients were friends of Vary's, a cosmopolitan couple with residences in Paris and Vienna and a great passion for design. This undoubtedly made the assignment. The result is a uniquely holistic approach in architecture, layout organization and furniture design harmonize perfectly. Instead of a heterogeneous mix-and-match, all materials, colors and shapes are meticulously coordinated throughout the entire apartment. Taking inspiration from the mid-century style, the overall concept pays tribute to the heyday of... More

Apartment C1: Nifty Art

We define apartment C1 as a playful and nifty artist. We attempted to construct a diverse and composite experiential living space and give it a flamboyant character. Through utilizing and integrating structural shapes, colors, textures and decorations, a characteristic and artistic residence was created.   Occupying an area of 160 m2, the apartment has a big drawback: small kitchen and dining room. However, it has two large semi-outdoor balconies. We made a bold assumption, and imagined that it would serve for a three-generation family which always hold family gatherings. The core concept of the design is to inherit the Chinese tradition and spirit of family togetherness. At the same time, we also intended to explore potential ways t... More

Renovation of an apartment in Eixample

This early twentieth century apartment located in the left Eixample of Barcelona, had two rooms facing south-east while the living room has a north-west orientation facing the interior courtyard through a small gallery. The central area of the flat, including the kitchen and two small rooms, was very dark and had a fragmented distribution. The project starts from the desire of the owners to renew the services and facilities (completely outdated) while trying to improve aspects of natural light in the whole flat. Due to the low budget, we proposed to maximize all the existing elements and allocate the main part of the budget to facilities, kitchen and bathroom. In this sense, the whole operation will focus on the central area where a c... More
