Off-grid house Lutra Lutra

Since the clients’ property is situated on the slopes of Crni Vrh Mountain, in the untouched nature of the Homolje Mountains, this house represents a true sanctuary of peace, quiet, and tranquility. For clients living in the capital, it was particularly important that the house be surrounded by dense, expansive forests, offering an escape from the urban hustle and fast pace of modern life—a perfect retreat to relax and reconnect with nature. The location is completely off-grid, with no possibility of connecting to electricity, water, or sewage. The lower section of the western part of the property falls into the third and second zones of protection of the newly established Kučaj-Beljanica National Park, while the area where the... More

Icicle Creek Retreat

On a private inholding in the Wenatchee National Forest, this mountain-high, off-grid retreat is built to thrive in the abundant snowfall and extreme seasonal temperature swings. The cabin sits on an unwooded knoll to minimize impact on the existing site. Its design is pragmatic, durable, and energy efficient. Andrew Giammarco Accessible by only snowmobile or skis half the year, the ground level entry is equipped with ski racks, utility space, and a wood-burning stove for overall heat and aid in drying gear. At the top, a generous covered entry and hard-working foyer were designed with gear usage top of mind, giving plenty of space to transition out of skis, snowshoes, or hiking boots. The laundry room is right there as well, and hook... More

Ribbon House

Ribbon House is a residence with two adjoining units for a brother and sister, built on a tiny plot of 92 sqm located in a tight residential context close to the 16th-century royal mausoleum complex, the Qutb Shahi Tombs, in Hyderabad, India. The plot is at the top of a steeply-sloping lane, surrounded by neighboring houses with shared walls on three sides with a narrow lane in the front. This posed a challenge to the spatial layout, natural ventilation, and privacy of the house. The beauty of the site was an existing pair of neem trees towards the center, and views of the Tombs from a height. Platform House

This house weaves green building and contemporary design into the context of its Austin, Texas neighborhood -- on a budget. It was conceived as a framing system for the lives of those within, using a variety of implicit framing devices at different scales to create subtly distinct moments that can be experienced separately or simultaneously.   The house holds and displays records of the lives within it through a continuous shelving system which simultaneously shapes larger spaces into zones for living.
