Reshaping Pazhou Island
A historic anchor for trade along the Pearl River, Pazhou Island has emerged as a modern center of commerce. The new headquarters for Star River is an emblem of this transformation. Ersha Island MAN LAP FONG
Featuring a huge expanse of greenery surrounded by high-end residential developments, museums and concert halls, the Ersha Island is actually the central park of Guangzhou. However, according to its original planning in 1980's, all the developments on this island were targeted at foreign buyers and ordinary local citizens were even denied access to it, which demonstrates its superior location. In the beginning of 1990's, the government started to build a "Cultural Golden Coast" along its southern bank and a series of first-class art venues including the Guangdong Museum of Art and Xinghai Concert Hall emerged one after another on the scene. Now the Island has become synonym of "high-brow" in the eyes of Guangzhou people.

An Urban Cottage
For most busy urbanites, home is like a temporary refuge and we would escape to the countryside for real rejuvenation. But for some lucky few, a home is their outlet to nature for complete relaxation. The higher expectation on home design is particularly relevant in the era of pandemics when most of us can no longer travel. After collaborating on a cafe and office project, Atelier Peter Fong, Lukstudio got the chance to work with Peter again on his apartment in central Guangzhou. Sharing a love for minimalistic design and natural materials, the project has been our continued dialogue on what gives comfort in a residence.

InterContinental Guangzhou Hotel
A landmark port for traders to sail through the Pearl River Delta, trading commodities sets the design inspiration for InterContinental Guangzhou.
Anchoring the lobby space, several semi-private timber framed pods sit randomly yet purposefully on a raised platform in front of a 3-story feature wall made entirely from undulating wooden slats that form familiar vessel shapes.
The specialty steak restaurant Char, is a reinterpretation of a rustic southern steakhouse with interiors of classic cowboy elements and feature walls made from a mosaic of cowhide panels.
The melding of Guangzhou's rich tapestry, heritage and business culture formed the basis for the nautical interior concept of InterCon Pazhou. More
