Victory Wellness Center, designed by Los Angeles-based PATTERNS, is the studio’s largest completed project to date and its first comprehensive adaptive reuse commission. The project transforms a 1960s bowstring-truss warehouse into a 42,000-square-foot medical facility. A new robust building ensemble designed by Steenhuis Bukman Architecten forms the entrance to the Parkrijk residential area in the south of Rijswijk. These blocks are fittingly named ‘De Entree’ (the entrance). The ensemble includes the Atalantaplein, a green square nestled between these two buildings. The new Correll Pavilion represents Grady Health System’s largest capital investment in 30 years. HOK designed the 10-story ambulatory surgical and outpatient facility, which is adjacent to Grady Memorial Hospital downtown. The Pavilion expands clinical capacity by 45% and operating rooms by 25%, allowing Grady to add over 200 hospital beds by relocating outpatient services. It was the needs of patients, not fashionable trends, that had a decisive influence on the final design of this space. Migraine is a neurological disorder characterized by severe, throbbing, unilateral headache accompanied by nausea, photophobia, phonophobia. The causes of its occurrence are still not fully known. It is likely that they are a combination of genetic predisposition, various environmental factors and increased sensitivity of the brain to stimuli.
