Grand Hospital of Charleroi (GHdC)
The Grand Hospital of Charleroi (GHdC) brings together five former hospitals on a single site, making this new complex the largest in Wallonia. Located on the former coal mining site of Les Viviers, it is surrounded by a vast 10.5-hectare park—a setting that fosters healing and well-being.
In a temporary partnership, VK architects+engineers and RESERVOIR A have designed a facility whose symbiosis with the landscape supports physical, emotional, and mental health. The large park surrounding the Viviers Hospital, landscaped by Bureau Bas Smet, preserves the site's biodiversity as much as possible and acts as an interface with the surrounding neighborhood.
