Historic environment

The brief for this project came from an external consultant's report on developing on a history trail for the area. The consultants had suggested over 25 different historical markers for the popular suburb, and from the beginning the council wanted an 'Interpretive Sculptural Elements Trail'. The council had two key agendas with the artwork. The first was to use a marked trail to show the public that there are a string of public, river front spaces throughout Battery Point and to reveal the complex layers that make up the area. This new development by PN Hoffman/Madison Marquette, designed by StudioMB, includes six new “land-side” structures at the historic Washington Fish Market—the oldest continuously operating open-air fish market in the U.S.—in Washington, D.C. Envisioned as a new retail precinct to support The Wharf—DC’s premier waterfront development—the design is focused around food and highlights StudioMB's restoration of a greatly altered historic structure while bringing the funky character of currently operating barges back to this urban space. nARCHITECTS was commissioned by the City of Auburn, NY and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to design the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center and public outdoor space in historic Auburn, NY. The new 7,500sf project transformed a former municipal parking lot into the new civic and cultural heart of historic Auburn, NY, home of Harriet Tubman. In the words of Governor Cuomo, “The Equal Rights Heritage Center in Auburn honors the efforts and sacrifices made by the many in the fight for justice and equality.” Unlike a museum setting, the building and exhibition is conceived as a portal to the many tourist attractions throughout the state that are connected with the struggled for equal rights.... Concept (Design idea)Architecture can act as a medium in transmitting messages at different Scales, sometimes at the neighborhood level, sometimes city level, and occasionally at the national or global levels. The dwelling house is part of the design plan Mühle, which primarily aims to preserve the protected mill and the surroundings of the mill. On the south side the building group willbe completed with the replacement building for the burnt-down barn, giving it the necessary spatial and historically justified importance. The result is an attractive place of a pleasant size, usable for various activities.Since the houses on the Sternenbergstrasse, which are also part of the design plan, are at a reasonable distance and clearly distinguished in the architectural formulation, the legibility of the historical ensemble is strengthened. Carousel, with interiors by Tengbom, is a restaurant in magnificent and vibrant premises on Gustav Adolfs square in Stockholm, opposite the Royal Opera House. The people behind the restaurant are restaurateurs Lukas Moderato, Robin Moderato and Christopher Ellertsson. Robin Moderato was previously a member of the trio behind restaurants Vassa Eggen and Boqueria which also have interiors by Tengbom. Carousel is a lively restaurant which references its historic environment while evoking a sense of new life, both in the premises and the area around Gustav Adolfs square.
