Kitchener, Ontario, originally known as Berlin, is a city in the Waterloo Region of Southern Ontario, Canada. Founded by German Mennonite settlers in the early 19th century, it was named Berlin in 1833, reflecting its strong German heritage. The city thrived as an industrial and manufacturing hub throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. LBBA has been working with Latin United Community Housing Association (LUCHA) for over 25 years to transform empty lots and rundown buildings into safe, decent housing close to schools, parks, and other services. Together, we have built and renovated over 175 units of affordable housing in Humboldt Park. Tierra Linda, a scattered-site housing project located near the Bloomingdale Trail, has been developed to nurture health and healthy living. The second construction phase completes the ensemble of buildings consisting of historic buildings and new buildings. The three new buildings are carefully embedded in the, gently sloping to the village environment and the old trees. The urban setting creates an internal connection between the new buildings. Surrounding walls reinforce this inner relationship of the buildings to each other and radiate security. A terraced garden spans between the house and the two other new buildings and also houses a biotech.The house for trade and wellness takes up the character of the economics buildings in the village center.
