Competition 2023, 1st place. In planning. A pair of bridges as a building block for sustainable mobility development—across Innsbruck and the surrounding area by tram. The concept focuses on the construction of two new bridges as elements of Innsbruck's urban development, to realize a continuous tram network from Rum to Völs, spanning a federal highway roundabout and two banks of the Inn River. The moraines of the Inn Glacier are a geological feature and have left behind in the Tyrolean Inn Valley a landscape that dominates the valley floor in Innsbruck / Arzt by about 20 meters. These south-facing slope shoulders represent an outstanding settlement area. Already in 2006, Lorenzateliers worked on an urban development study for ÖBB Immobilienmanagement GmbH for a former industrial estate in the Innsbruck district of Mühltal. The northern glacier moraine creates an extremely attractive, south-facing slope along the entire urban area, which has always been a preferred residential area. The “attico” story in the historically roofed-over Baroque building at the heart of the inner city, adjacent to David Chipperfield’s Kaufhaus Tyrol. It turned out to be possible to break up the “wrong” roof of 1983 and re-set a smooth, steep roof as a new crown. In order to visibly demonstrate respect for the historic facade, apertures were restrained and kept functional: a huge roof window transforms the interior to a rooftop terrace in summertime. Residential building with gorge and birchesOn a plot south of the Dorfgasse in Hötting a residential complex was constructed with nine apartments. The architecture could be described as structured terrace typology. The building emphasises the qualities of the hillside as well as it fits with the surrounding buildings.The structure results in four height-graded components, each with green roofs. The orientation guarantees optimal exposure. The centrally located circulation is managed as external circulation and thus underlines the structure of the components. Hard shell – soft core: The focus of the design is placed on the clear separation between the street and courtyard spaces.   The building accumulates in layers around the residential units out to the urban space, creating an overall volume with depth and multifaceted spatial qualities.   The traditional urban block structure of 20th-century housing was to be continued on the property in the former slaughterhouse district in Innsbruck.
