Canadian Cancer Society: Prevention+Support Centre

This project combines an extensive reimagining of the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) lodge and head office with an expansion to create a new entrance, amenity areas and a main gathering space. The renovation required integrating three interconnected building systems, each with its own code standards and varying architectural quality due to being built at different times. While it would have been easier to add a fourth building system, this would have created complexities for future renovations. Instead, the team decided to unify all the buildings and operate them as one. This meant gutting the three existing systems and replacing them with a single unified system. Where possible, building components were salvaged and reused in the new system... More

Cheung Sha Wan Primary School

A school is a community: a micro-society. The act of learning is to be achieved by means of active participation of the learners with the environment, through a journey of self-discovery and investigation. The spatial concept for Cheung Sha Wan Primary School is to bring students and teachers together with the playground, central ball court and other spaces, to encourage interaction through various activities. Caption Caption Caption   The school is located in a densely populated neighbourhood.  Like in most urban infill sites, high-rise residential buildings surround the plot, overlooking the school ground leaving limited views from within. As a result, the school is spatially designed with an inner focus to form... More

Kashmir University Law Faculty

The building design has a large glass front, that blurs the lines between inside and out, and all academic and faculty facilities are planned around a central atrium. The primary staircase abuts the atrium space, and, apart from being a functional design, ends up being an all weather “social space”.The building is naturally ventilated, for keeping it cool during the warm season. However, the high performance glazing and UPVC fenestration system allows the building to be used in cold weather also, without being air-conditioned.Steel PEB is the primary structural framing, and deck slabs are provided for all floors. The external envelope is made from insulated double wall brick work, procured locally. More

OKU Rectorate Housing

As the building is expected to serve both institutional and private functions, the design focuses on the potential relations between of these two uses of different requirements. The first mass to be recognized upon approaching the building houses the reception chamber of the rectorate. The reception unit, designed for meetings and other public activities, is located closer to the street border, and thus provides improved privacy for the rector’s residence. The reception unit and the house are connected via a bridge that houses a private study room for the rector. The structure provides separate open spaces both for the reception unit and the house, and allows spontaneous use of both. Both units are contained in modest masses to allow a spaci... More

Colegio de la Imagen Publica

The project for Colegio de la Imagen Publica (Public Image College) was developed in an area of 1000 sq m with a frontage of 23 m, wherein the extent and allowable height resulted in vertical solution of 8 levels, 2.5 basements and a roof garden, along with gardens and water mirrors. The structure, the facade, and all the spaces are integrated into one by an apparent structure.Parking levels were solved with a concrete structure that has natural lighting and ventilation. The vertical volume, from level 5 to the top, contains the metal structure of the school. From this level it was proposed to resolve the interconnections through two major staircases that create a healthy building that promotes movement. The latest materials were used for a... More
