We were approached in 2018 to create designs for the refurbishment of a double fronted Grade 11 Listed Georgian Crescent House in South London. The brief was to reinterpret the internal layout of the house for a growing creative family. Traditionally the kitchen was located in the ancillary spaces on the lower ground floor, however these had a poorer quality of natural light and a more limited head height. The brief was to bring the kitchen, dining and living spaces up to the principal reception room spaces. Some of the best things in life come in small packages and the recent refurbishment of a compact apartment in Fitzrovia by Roselind Wilson Design is no exception. Charismatic and well-travelled, the client wanted his London pied-à-terre to reflect his vibrant personality with bold colours, textures and some serious wow factor. From a functional point of view, the apartment needed to be able to accommodate visiting friends and family, as well as act as a welcoming bolthole for when he returned from his travels. The proposal relates to the construction of a new contemporary two-storey brick extension to an historic Edwardian house. The design of the proposed extension has been defined by the site conditions and constraints. The most unique characteristic of 1 Milman Road is the corner bay window. Most houses at the end of terrace terminate in a blank brick side elevation, most notably the building at the rear of the garden, along Harvist Road. On this property however, the terrace turns the corner and continues onto the Harvist Road elevation by using a distinct corner bay window.
