The building houses a symphony hall for 1.000 spectators, a hall for chamber music for 200 spectators, a multifunctional space for exhibitions and conferences, and a wide foyer, which can also be used to host events. The building is confi gured by a synthetic, but at the same time complex volume, which is resolved through a continuous promenade, which connects all these functions along a single public path through all the levels of the building. Old Mine Science and Art Centre in Walbrzych

As the most innovative project of the year, the Stara Kopalnia has received the TopBuilder 2013 award given by the Polish construction and architecture magazine entitled Builder. In the area of former Julia coal mine in Walbrzych, the past mixes with the future of science, culture and art. The key idea of the project is to transcend the carbon era without completely eradicating the history of the Lower Silesia region (southwest Poland). The tissue of the space will be retained, and at the same time enriched with modern solutions, thus the new mine will represent the best of the old and the new. Each building located in the area of the Julia coal mine will be dedicated to a specific issue, i.e. the past and the present of the coal, the ecolo... More

National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra

“Whatever space and time mean, place and occasion mean more.” Aldo van Eyck The centre of Katowice with 20 hectares of post-mining emptiness undergoes a revitalisation on an unprecedented scale in Poland. The objective is to point the city towards culture. The buildings there are supralocal and stimulate the entire region. The NOSPR Project was selected in an international competition. We chose a building with a simple, compact outline in the south of the 4 acre plot to keep the project close to the centre. Designing public spaces, we filled two squares and a park with 450 trees and attractions such as fountains, musical toys, a maze and an amphitheatre. The key idea was to contain a story within a story; combining to give the whole p... More

International Congress Centre (MCK) in Katowice

The International Conference Centre building in Katowice is a multifunctional, complex service facility, which ranks among public buildings. For the most part, it has been designed for guests who take part in the events organised there. However, it also has an area which is fully available for the public – it is a green passage which goes diagonally through the building’s roof where it takes on the shape of a valley, as well as the main foyer – the connecting area between two entrances: from the Honour Square’s side (in front of the arena complex called “Spodek” – the “Saucer”) and the second from the side of Olimpijska Street. Marking these spaces as public is a vital city-forming element for a post-industrial area where the MCK complex w... More

Hotel Baltic Palace in Pobierowo

A complete photo shoot of the hotel for the architectural office Mateusz Tański & Associates and Michalewicz & Co.: The main idea behind the Baltic Palace is to create an object that would be a counterpoint to the chaotic construction of low architectural values. Polish Pomerania has a rich tradition of modernism, which in the interwar period brought many avant-garde implementations. MT&A based the design on the assumption that a recall of the tradition of the avant-garde would be the right answer and in its place an object which would become a showcase of the region would evolve. The strongest point of the architecture is its northern facade. Its distribution was logically subordinate to the function - each module corresponds to the wid... More
