Located near Bangkok University, one of Thailand’s leading institutions known for its vibrant student culture, a multipurpose sports and activity facility provides a dynamic destination for students, and creative landscape architectural design overcame prominent site challenges to connect people and places and greatly enhance usability. Located adjacent to the university and divided by a 10-lane highway, the long and narrow project site presented distinct challenges, including setback limitations on all sides and limited usable area. Our architectural ambitions for BKK Montana are informed by simple concepts of re-use, small-scale density and shared spaces. The project resembles a mountain village where every inhabitant had their house built by the same carpenter: three variations of a prefabricated module are placed around the existing BKK building, which transforms into a house for people, culture and work. The placement of the new houses defines a series of space which scales vary between a little garden courtyard to a generous public plaza, designed to service the new Montana inhabitants and their neighbours. The Alter Residence is a redesign project for a level front yard of a 1970s Spanish Revival home in Santa Monica. The primary functional goal of the design is to provide a low-maintenance and low-water use outdoor space for a retired couple. The concept is based on a formal layout that incorporates drought tolerant plant species that are low-maintenance. Elements that support the concept include the removal of all turf grass in favor of decomposed granite, a staggered grid of six olive trees, a central blue agave, a parkway made exclusively of drought tolerant plant species, and steel edging that delineates the decomposed granite areas from the planting areas. Landscape Design Workshop has won a 2016 Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects design award in the Residential category for their project Nexus Sawgrass.  A village green sits at the heart of Nexus Sawgrass, a 23-acre pedestrian friendly community designed to inspire the residents to enjoy and explore the outdoor environment. The project is located in the City of Sunrise with 500 rental apartments; 200 apartments in a wrap-around 4 story building with an attached garage and 300 units in 9 garden-style buildings. The community also includes a 10,000 square-foot clubhouse building. The community provides its residents with a resort lifestyle. It is organized around a large open space, a... Landscape Design Workshop has won a 2018 Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects design award in the Residential category for their project AMLI Sawgrass Village. The project site is located in the City of Sunrise with two residential buildings and a parking garage tucked in between. The 350-apartment community also includes a free standing leasing center, a dog park and intimate garden spaces. Each building is overlooking an interior courtyard. Landscape Design Workshop has won a 2018 Architecture MasterPrize™ Design Award in the Landscape Architecture / Outdoor Designs category for their Veranda at Plantation project. This lush tropical ‘urban jungle’ courtyard forms the social hub of the apartment complex and helps to mitigate the urban heat island effect. St Bartholomew’s, a £40m new build secondary school with a capacity for 1650 pupils, was originally completed in 2010 with Jonathan Gratton as the lead designer and project architect. Given the success of the original design the school re-approached Jonathan with a brief to extend the school with an additional exam space. With St Bartholomew’s agreement, ArchitectureLIVE further developed the project brief to encompass a new multi-purpose space to provide a dedicated foyer for school and community events, a new study area for the 6th Form and extended changing facilities as well as the increased exam capacity.
