SUNY College of Optometry 7th Floor Eye Center

The 7th floor University Eye Center at SUNY College of Optometry, located in a high-rise building overlooking Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan, serves over 60,000 patients annually. After years of heavy use, the clinical exam rooms required renovation, and the Eyewear Retail Center—which provides glasses and lenses—had become outdated and was partitioned off from public view. The existing 11,000 sq. ft. layout was inefficient for both teaching and clinical care, with long distances between waiting areas, bathrooms, testing rooms, and exam rooms causing delays and overcrowding. Pavel Bendov / Arch Explorer Working with doctors and administration, MDSA developed a plan that organized the 24 exam rooms into three “pod&r... More

C59

Designed by HAA&D Nestled in the bustling center of Berlin, the C59 project by HAA&D transforms a 180m² duplex into a peaceful refuge, balancing the vibrancy of the city with a soft, tranquil atmosphere. Despite being part of a newly constructed complex, the apartment feels like a private retreat, seamlessly blending with the surrounding natural environment. HAA&D HAA&D At the heart of the design is the thoughtful layout, which creates a strong axis that runs from the entrance wall, aligning three key gathering points: the kitchen island, the dining table, and the sofa. These "islands" foster a circular flow that invites movement around them while maintaining easy communication and eye contact between family... More

SHI HOUSE

The Shi House sits patiently on the slope of a ravine, awaiting each day for the sun to set behind the mountain. This project is comprised of a vertical element housing the stairs and some horizontal circulations, opting for a stone materiality to become, over time and weather, part of the mountain it nestles upon; and a horizontal white element accommodating the entirety of this house's program. César Béjar César Béjar The stone volume vertically connects the entrance and garages with the rest of the house, which is nestled within this disruptive white, abstract, and even challenging volume that seeks a visual balance between the natural and artificial. House Belaku

Belaku, which means "House of Light," is a residential project on the outskirts of Bengaluru. A 2BHK tenant house and a duplex home were requested by our client. The home needed to be well-lit and to have natural light throughout. Both the project's cost and Vaastu Shastra compliance must be acceptable. Studio Recall We began by planning to let in a lot of light by cutting wide openings on the north and east sides. We have a finite amount of "Stack Effect" ventilation openings. We have made the project future-proof by giving 4 feet wide room for lighting and ventilation on the entire north face of the building, keeping in mind the potential tenants on the constrained urban plot. The main door should be on the NE corner, the Master Bed... More
