CASA ON
The Blancafort urbanization is a low-density residential complex that continues a sports facility founded in 1970, located in an area surrounded by nature and situated one kilometre from the urban centre of the city of Reus. It contains about one hundred plots, almost all with single-family homes, with straight, flat streets that close regular blocks. A well-planted and maintained promenade shows fertile and generous land, giving the area the appearance of a garden city. The existing houses, except for a few more contemporary exceptions, are aesthetically similar, occupy a large part of the plots, and are built with traditional materials.

Vallribera Arquitectes transform a single-storey row house in Vallès into a spacious family home
This project by Vallribera Arquitectes sees the clever transformation of a single-storey row house in Vallès, Spain, into a spacious family home. The footprint of the project remains unchanged, however, as the family required additional floor area the architects looked to the high vaulted roof space as a way to harness additional space at the mezzanine level.

Broad Street House
Broad Street House is new build home in Suffolk by Nash Baker Architects. The house utilises a palette of natural and traditional materials to blend with the rural street scene, and the exterior uses oak cladding and handmade bricks (both locally sourced) to blend with the architectural character of the village. To create a more distinctive look, the bricks were laid in a variation of ‘Monks bond’ using white iron-free sand for the lime mortar which was sourced from the local Wivenhoe pit.
In contrast to the brickwork at the ground floor, the upper level appears lightweight, utilising ribbons of untreated oak cladding to wrap up and across a pitched roof. The oak cladding was sized to match the brick course dimensions, so that the two el... More
