PROA Climbing Centre
Proa Climbing Center is an indoor sports hall specialized in climbing and bouldering.
The project takes place at a 500m2 old warehouse to create the infrastructure and necessary amenities for the gym users.
It is an activity that naturally gathers around users from different levels/experience to help each other out and discuss new technics or ways to address a given issue. Users come together on the surroundings of the wall, such as the access corridors or even the matresses, therefore, it is fair to say that these areas are to be considered as a social spaces. This is the core aspect of the project: provide the most area possible for interpersonal interaction and boulders in order to create the community feeling.

Katajanokan Laituri
Helsinki’s former industrial Katajanokka waterfront is home to Katajanokan Laituri, a solid wood office and hotel building, and the largest mass timber construction in Finland to date. Designed by Helsinki-based architectural studio Anttinen Oiva Architects, the 23,000-square-metre landmark building is certified LEED Platinum. The completion of Katajanokan Laituri contributes to Helsinki’s goal of becoming a carbon-neutral city by 2030.

Wisdome Stockholm
Wisdome Stockholm is a forward-looking extension of the National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm, Sweden (known in Swedish as Tekniska museet). Designed by Stockholm-based Elding Oscarson, the 1,325-square-metre extension has a sweeping and sculptural dome-shaped roof. This timber gridshell structure is the first known gridshell built from flat, standard laminated veneer lumber (LVL) panels.

Waugh Thistleton Architects has collaborated with Timber Development UK to launch Timber Typologies, a guide to “understanding options for timber construction.” London-based Waugh Thistleton Architects is an ardent proponent of building with engineered timber. The studio recently completed The Black & White Building, London’s tallest engineered timber office building.

Detail: Mass Timber of Lea Bridge Library, London
Studio Weave has completed a single-story, 250 square meter public library extension that makes use of a mass timber primary structure. The post-and-beam system partially cantilevers over a protected site and supports a full-height glass facade for panoramic views to a community garden.
Studio Weave was commissioned to design an extension to the Grade-II listed Lea Bridge Library in the East London borough of Waltham Forest. The project adds a cafe and adaptable community area to offer new program spaces for working, learning, socializing and gathering. Established in 1997 by Andrew Waugh and Anthony Thistleton, Waugh Thistleton Architects is a London-based practice that produces thoughtful and sustainable architecture and design. A leader in the use of engineered timber, the practice has built an enviable reputation in the field. Waugh Thistleton Architects had a keen interest in developing new and innovative ways of building from the outset. Its first cross-laminated timber (CLT) project was realized in 2003. Its latest, The Black & White Building, was officially opened in January 2023, twenty years later.

Nightlight by Fabric Architecture is designed to double as a utility shed and sculptural light feature
For a site in Banks Peninsula, New Zealand, architect Mitchell and designer Amy Douglas of Fabric Architecture (formerly Coll Architecture) developed a utility shed creatively designed to double as a sculptural light feature for future outdoor living space. Called Nightlight, the structure provides tool storage, outdoor amenities for washing up, and illumination for the surrounding garden.

The shed includes a polycarbonate shell clad with Abodo Vulcan timber. The polycarbonate allows light to transmit through, while the Abodo screens lend texture and the impression of a Japanese lantern.
