While a two-story, our Woodland Modern home looks like a one story. Our use of planes to define spaces also gives the structure to the home. With its horizontal emphasis, we wanted it not to feel large and imposing. We popped out a portion to create a second level and created a roof level. Transom window balance the forms and create a connection to the outdoor living space. Metal and such are primarily used to create lots of contrast with this home. Located in Wayzata, MN. The most striking feature of this home are the razor-edge roof profiles and the fact that those roofs swoop both vertically and horizontally. It is really an evolution of modern design. They overhang to provide shade during the warmer months and then create a really unique transition from the single story portion of the home to the second story. The house on the hills was built in the landscape of a charming village near Rzeszów. On a plot of just over 1000 m2, in an area of varied and very extensive development, we designed a single-storey house with a simple form and functional interior, offering open and bright spaces open to the landscape of the Podrzeszów hills. We named this home Modern on the Prairie. Certainly, Pa Ingalls didn’t design this one. We designed it in a Modern architectural spacial design by using vertical and horizontal planes to create the spaces. No post and beams or headers. Its flat roof helps further expresses the planes. The Teston House has been owned and occupied for decades by a well-known family in the Toronto area. When FrankFranco was engaged, it had reached the stage where it must transform to suit the needs of multiple generations; to become functional enough to accommodate the next era. FrankFranco Architects The common Pompeii villa inspired the home’s open-air internal courtyard, complete with a skylight. Here the head of the household once grew fig trees, and historically the home was used to entertain often. The Summitridge house is a creative collaboration between architect Marc Whipple and Troy Adams of Troy Adams Design, who served as project manager and interior designer. Both enjoyed the process immensely, and this distinctive house is certainly evidence of a successful partnership. It all begins with the land and its orientation to the views. The property is a flat hourglass shape on top of a ridge with steep slopes on two sides, so the shape guided the positioning of the house. At the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, in the community of Altadena, the existing single family residence is located on a large flat lot. The existing house had no connection to the back yard. The owners, a family of four had outgrown the house and approached LOC to help conceive of an addition that would provide the family with two new bedrooms and bathrooms. Constrained by the location of the existing garage, LOC envisioned a courtyard type house, stitching the new to the old through the introduction of a large deck, providing privacy for the master bedroom at the rear of the house, while taking advantage of the vast rear yard. The Aspen Grove House was created for a couple whose shared passions are skiing, music, reading, feasting, their beloved dog, and the Methow Valley. They wanted something simple and practical, so the interest and delight of the home come through thoughtful details and use of materials. Revitalizing a storied structure in a small town, a historic train depot gets a new life as a colorful, dynamic dance studio. Brad Feinknopf In the small upstate New York town of Accord, a 1902 train depot remained a local landmark over the years, despite changing times and uses. The historic structure was one of several nearly identical depots dotted along the local train line, many of which remain today. The Accord Depot had many past lives – as a bed and breakfast, and most recently, a restaurant  as a community arts center, an ice cream shop, and most recently, a brief stint as a restaurant – which meant it endured many numerous incomplete and uninspired renovations over the years, slowly falling into disrepair....
