Tobiasschool Amsterdam

The renovation and extension of the Tobiasschool in Amsterdam transforms an existing school building to accommodate contemporary education while preserving the identity of the original architecture. The project responds to two central needs: additional classroom capacity and, following the educational philosophy of the Vrije School, a shared central space that connects the entire school. Rather than replacing the existing building, the design takes the original structure as its starting point. New volumes are carefully positioned around it, creating a composition in which old and new remain clearly legible while functioning as one school. Kindercampus Zuidas

Kindercampus Zuidas forms the educational heart of Ravel, a new mixed-use neighbourhood taking shape in Amsterdam Zuidas. Positioned on a traffic-calmed square along the Boelegracht and surrounded by a green, car-free public realm, the school is conceived as more than a standalone educational building. Architecture, landscape and learning environments are brought together to create a place that encourages children to explore, meet and learn both inside and outside the classroom. The campus accommodates a primary school for 520 pupils, comprising 2,830 m² of educational space, alongside a 552 m² gymnasium and 410 m² of after-school childcare. Its spatial organisation is based on development-oriented learning (OGO), an educati... More

Armentières

"The Athénée Royal is about to begin a new life. Its transformation will last several months during which old and new buildings will have to coexist… For the sake of functionality, we propose a single building. Each function is accessible without having to leave the protective envelope. Nevertheless, we have worked to ensure that the different zones are clearly distinguished. The construction takes the form of a sculpted volume whose height varies. The child's perception has been at the heart of our thinking. The classrooms and the dining hall open onto the surrounding nature. We have placed the playgrounds and outdoor circulation areas away from the teaching spaces. The calm of the classrooms is guaranteed…"... More

An Educational Farm on the Roof

A new greenhouse and an educational pavilion transform the rooftop of Collège Flora Tristan into a productive and pedagogical urban farm. Located atop a secondary school in Paris, the project supports the work of Veni Verdi, an urban agriculture association that cultivates fruits, vegetables, and flowers as part of the school’s educational program. The rooftop—originally intended as a school playground—already offered spatial qualities compatible with productive use. Through a participatory budget from the City of Paris, the project enhances this unique agricultural setting while embracing a frugal approach aligned with environmental and financial constraints. Set within a green residential environment, this public building designed by RAU architects demonstrates how material performance and architectural expression can reinforce one another. The building’s monolithic appearance is defined by Yoroi; a deeply charred bamboo façade developed for projects where aesthetics, durability and certified fire safety are equally essential. Powerful architectural identityThe façade creates a calm yet powerful architectural identity. Its dark, tactile surface allows the volume to merge naturally into the surrounding landscape, while the refined markings of the charred bamboo introduce depth, texture and subtle variation. Under changing daylight conditions, the carbonised surface develops... More

Blue School

Blue School is a bilingual institution that approached SKBorges with the goal of developing an innovative architectural project that would reflect its distinctive pedagogical approach. The premise was clear: to create an architecture that breaks away from traditional school models, offering flexible, sensorial spaces focused on the well-being of students, educators, and families.  Paula Caruso The spatial organization of the building is based on the division of school cycles — early childhood, elementary, and high school — vertically distributed across three distinct floors. Each level received a specific color identity, facilitating spatial orientation and creating a direct relationship between architecture and age g... More

Sheptytskyi Gymnasium

The Sheptytskyi Gymnasium project emerged as a response not only to the demand for a modern educational space but also as a tool for social interaction — a place where the school ceases to be a closed institution and becomes an active element of the Sykhiv community in Lviv. The project was initiated by an educational and civic organization that combines pedagogical work with spiritual values. This defined a unique approach to the creation of space — open, inclusive, and focused on the development not only of knowledge but of the individual as well. The gymnasium is located on the edge of John Paul II Park, which has its own distinctive charm. This location became a key factor in shaping the architectural concept: the building... More

Primary school in Pomezia

A simple and compact school building from a volumetric point of view, clear in its functional organization and regular in its structural grid. The new school is located on the site of the existing building and is characterized by a unitary volume, articulated on two levels, to accommodate the required areas. The compactness of the building allows the connective spaces to be concentrated in the “central nave” of the structure, with double-height spaces, ensuring efficient distribution of the school’s areas. Caption Caption Caption On the ground floor, the connective space is also made usable thanks to its permeability and visual transparency, through the various double heights.
