Blue School is a bilingual institution that approached SKBorges with the goal of developing an innovative architectural project that would reflect its distinctive pedagogical approach. The premise was clear: to create an architecture that breaks away from traditional school models, offering flexible, sensorial spaces focused on the well-being of students, educators, and families.
The spatial organization of the building is based on the division of school cycles — early childhood, elementary, and high school — vertically distributed across three distinct floors. Each level received a specific color identity, facilitating spatial orientation and creating a direct relationship between architecture and age group.
The main entrance concentrates reception and support functions. The entrance hall leads to an exclusive space for parents, equipped with comfortable waiting areas and private acoustic booths for calls and quick meetings. This architectural solution responds to the contemporary dynamics of school and family life, expanding the role of the building as a structure of community support.
The project's flexibility is particularly evident in the classrooms, designed with modular furniture and open layouts. This configuration allows for multiple spatial arrangements, adapting to different teaching strategies and promoting the autonomy of the teaching staff. Complementary multifunctional spaces were also incorporated to support a wide range of educational practices, including music, arts, and physical expression.
Biophilic elements were subtly introduced through the use of natural materials, integrated vegetation, and the optimization of natural light and ventilation — all contributing to the users’ health and cognitive performance. Artistic interventions are also a central part of the project: two invited artists contributed directly to the school’s spaces, reinforcing the institution’s bond with creativity and cultural identity.
Blue School exemplifies how architecture can actively contribute to the educational process through design solutions that combine functionality, sensitivity, and innovation. The result is a dynamic, adaptable environment that is deeply aligned with the needs of a 21st-century school.
