The site is at the Jiugong metro station, near the Milu deer park in southeast Beijing, Daxing District.  Take a solid block of architecture. Carve out volumes from the block. Insert landscape material into the new spaces. Such is the formula for the interlocking landscape and architecture of Jiugong. In this intimate give and take between architectural mass and landscape, the materials of the landscape are pushed into their most technical realm. Pavers are set onto pedestal structures. Planters are filled with volcanic glass to lighten the soil loads. Plumbing, gas, and electrical lines are carefully wrought to make spaces for root balls. The MDSA-designed Pre-K Center in Queens opened in September of 2022. The school exhibits a mixture of colors, materials and textures, common in the work of the firm, and fitting to the Mosaic name. This 21,000 SF renovation and addition to an existing Islamic K-12 parochial school focused on bringing the community together and creating a space that reflects the identity of the students architecturally. Caption Caption This project features a new gym/assembly hall, new classrooms, a ceramics studio, locker rooms, and restroom facilities.
