Villa ENSO is a contemporary residence located in La Reserva de Sotogrande, designed by Manuel Ruiz Moriche, co-founder and Creative Director of ARK Architects. Conceived as an architecture of continuity, the project explores the relationship between space, light, nature, and emotional wellbeing through a language of soft geometries and fluid spatial transitions. Inspired by the symbolic concept of the circle, ENSO unfolds organically within its natural surroundings, opening toward panoramic views of the golf course and the Mediterranean Sea. The arrival alone is already a statement. Concrete slabs on grass, dense vegetation — and in the background, volumes of stone and terracotta that emerge without revealing what they hide. From the outset, this residence is conceived as a seamless dialogue between architecture and landscape. A refined watter features leads to the entrance, setting a serene tone that extends throughout the house. The foyer, lit by a skylit patio, transitions gently between exterior and interior, introducing the play of light and shadow that defines the home's atmosphere. Joining forces with the clients for a third time, following a rooftop garden at their Barbican penthouse apartment and bespoke containers in their country home, we commenced this cultural pilgrimage to design & build a modern Japanese garden in Essex. Returning from a holiday in Japan, mesmerised by its unique gardens, the clients sought to develop a contemporary interpretation. With a 220 sqm sheltered courtyard in their 5-hectare acreage, the site was mechanically cleared for a new, inventive, modern Japanese landscape design.
