Casa Matriz was born from the refusal to repeat the obvious. In a setting defined by the close proximity between buildings and the repetition of predictable solutions, the architecture responds through introspection and openness: it closes itself laterally to preserve privacy, while directing the gaze toward the landscape beyond, transforming the house into a continuous journey between interior, water, nature, and horizon. In the outdoor areas, architecture and landscape become one continuous experience: the pool reflects the surrounding vegetation, dissolving the boundaries between house and nature.
Conceived as a high-end residence intended for sale, the house emerged from a rare condition: the absence of a rigid lifestyle script. Without a family brief dictating specific uses, the project found the freedom to investigate what remains essential regardless of who inhabits it: light, materiality, landscape, and sensory experience.
From this freedom came an architecture designed as an experience. Brise-soleils, strategic openings, and zenithal cuts continuously transform the relationship between light and shadow, ensuring the house is never revealed in the same way twice. Sunlight moves through the spaces as a living material, shaping atmospheres that shift throughout the hours and seasons.
The harmony between architecture and construction was fundamental in making this investigation possible. For the client and technical construction partner, @engenheiro_matheus, Casa Matriz represented a turning point in relation to the construction standards of his previous works, bringing together bold structural solutions and new construction experimentations within a single project.
Structurally, the house concentrates its engineering at the edges, freeing the interior core and creating expansive, fluid, and adaptable spaces that, rather than defining a fixed way of living, evolve alongside the transformations of life over time.
The materiality reinforces this idea of permanence. Exposed concrete, steel, wood, and natural stone compose an architecture that embraces time as part of its beauty. Together, the materials interact like notes within the same chord, creating a tactile, silent, and welcoming atmosphere.
More than a house, it is a statement of Brazilian identity: every stone, element, and texture that composes it was extracted, produced, or designed in Brazil, creating a narrative that connects architecture and place.
Designed to receive stories still unknown, Casa Matriz finds its greatest strength precisely in this openness. The project’s flexibility does not lie in emptiness, but in the house’s ability to adapt to different ways of living over time while always preserving its architectural essence — a house where structural rigor coexists with sensitive atmospheres, allowing each resident to build their own relationship with space.
