In collaboration with MVRDV and LOLA Landscape Architects, Orange Architects has been commissioned by developers AM to transform the industrial zone beside Zwolle railway station into a vibrant innovation district, called WärtZ. AM and Dutch Railways (NS) have officially agreed on the winning plan, which consists of some 850 dwellings for all age groups, hospitality venues, education institutes, neighbourhood amenities and spaces for creative makers. In collaboration with JEP Vastgoed and Vink Bouw, Orange Architects designed an urban infill piece between the Insulindestraat and the Hofbogenpark. De Hofberg comprises a residential building with 28 urban townhouses that completes the Spoordriehoek, while an integrated public route creates a connection between the neighborhood and the park. Conceptually, De Hofberg can be read as an intimate, landscaped sloping alley, flanked on both sides by buildings, that naturally bridges the level difference between Insulindestraat and Hofbogenpark. Villa Santpoort is a detached residence located in the dunes of Santpoort-Zuid, designed to form a connection with its surrounding landscape. The design responds to the natural level differences of the site, resulting in a playful split-level layout where spaces are interconnected yet retain their own identity. The villa consists of a wooden volume placed on a concrete plinth, intersected by glass elements that create transparency and unique light conditions. The integrated approach to both exterior and interior results in a cohesive design that strengthens the relationship between the home and nature. For Sweco's new office in the Wonderwoods building in the heart of Utrecht, Hal2 designed and realised a 1,300 m² workplace that brings together identity, circularity and spatial clarity. The result is a working environment that supports the way people actually work, moving between focus, collaboration and informal exchange, while making sustainability visible and tangible at every turn. The Wonderwoods building is known for its striking green facade. In the Brabant countryside, where farms and fields alternate with forest plots, a new house is being built. The front of the plot is located close to the road and has unobstructed views over a rural farmland. At the rear, the plot borders the Maashorst nature reserve and extends from the road deep into the underlying coniferous forest. What immediately stands out are the 6 stately Scots pines whose crowns protrude above the other trees. Villa X combines solid and void in a geometrically minimalistic composition. Based on the clients’ desires for both openness and privacy, Barcode Architects designed a living space that blends seamlessly with the garden, as well as enclosed rooms that would allow the couple to “close the door”.
