Situated between a residential neighbourhood and the edge of a wooded landscape in Loon-Plage, France, TCLP by ZITA Architectes expands an existing tennis club to accommodate four new padel courts, upgraded changing facilities, and a public plaza that strengthens the club’s role as a community destination. This project has been recognized at the 2025 International Architecture Awards in the Sports & Recreation category, presented by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. A linear project is proposed in the only viable space of a plot filled with padel and tennis courts. The building is developed in the simplest and most functional way possible, designing a long concrete block that acts as a barrier with the street, providing privacy for the athletes while creating a blank façade facing outward. The original plans were created by the client (Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, architect Ridha Haraket). During the final phase of the planning process, architect Amandus VanQuaille and Prof. ir. M. Mollaert were giving advice regarding typical elements of membrane architecture and engineering.All the nodes of the metal structure are conceived as free rotating 3D hinges.
